G'day folks,

I'm getting a lot of PMs regarding upfront medicals and how you're supposed to do them, if you feel the urge to do it.
I'm yet waiting to get my MR, so my experience equals zero, but it's an interesting topic for sure.
I don't want this thread to become a place to discuss whether it's recommended to do upfront medicals or not, I would like
to see it becoming a source of information for the process and how to perform upfront meds.

Here's a nice thread with a discussion whether people think it's positive or negative to perform the medicals upfront:

So if people who completed upfront medicals could post how they went about it, preferably the whole process
from making the appointment, to showing up at the doctors, which forms to use, whether you get to take a form home or not,
blah blah blah all the way until ECAS changed to 'Medicals Received' ( maybe with timeline ), that would be highly
appreciated and would help others a lot!!

I will also link to this thread on my website http://cectoolkit.weebly.com/ so please don't let it become a place for general discussion.

Thanks,
- Toby

Update #1:

Summed up the information provided:

So when can you do your upfront medical ? Is it like 6-7 months after receiving AOR ?

C'mon guys, anyone? ??? ???
I know there's people out there who completed upfront medicals.

some one replied me. in another thread so i will share it
i - Just wait untill you got your AOR , Get a Copy of your AOR as it has file number and client ID .
Visit any on CIC panel doctor and ask that you want to go for upfront medical.

Just make sure doctor is e-medical enabled for faster processing.

Let me know if you need more info.

I looked up Panel Physician on CIC website and called one in my neighbourhood.
Asked them if they take upfront medical and luckily the one I called said yes.
They sent me some documents to fill in (which could be done at the clinic but they sent me the copies so we save some time)
and on one of the documents, I was told to put my UCI (that helps to link my medical result to my PR application).
After I finished the medical exam, they gave me an e-Medical document with UMI.
I scanned the e-medical and sent it to CPP-O (now changed to CPC-O, I believe?).
That was it :)

Thanks for your response. Yes, as much information as possible :) Like what forms are being used, do you get to
take a form home when visiting an eMeds physician, is there anything you have to bring like passport etc?
I'd appreciate any piece of information and will put it together in an article for my website for future references.

I did the upfront medicals (my husband and I) in Calgary. My doctor's name is Dr. Johann Van Der Merwe. Before you make an appointment, you have to call the lab if they are available to do the blood test at the same day and then you can finish your medical exam in one day. I am saying this because I live in Edmonton. I have to finish the medical exam in a day so I do not have to drive another 3 hours from Edmonton to Calgary again. You need to bring the email (including your UCI and application #) from CIC and your passport and $250 cash. Make sure you arrive at the clinic 20 minutes earlier than your appointment time because you need to fill out forms...X-ray test costs $50 and the blood test is $32. You can pay by debit/credit card at X-ray and Blood test.

Important topic, thanks Toby

Cheers

Guys,

I would like to ask you a question here.

Normally, MR is issued once the candidate is very likely to pass the whole process. It is designed this way so people do not contract additional costs for nothing.
But If I do medicals upfront I put the visa officer in a difficult situation. Let's say VO is hesitant whether to approve me or not, Let's say he feels like an applicant do not meet the cec criteria, on the flips side to it VO can see that additional costs had been incurred. It may sway his decision to pass.

Have you seen anyone with upfront medicals who was rejected later on?

The MR are additional costs for the applicant, not CIC - hence, CIC doesn't care whether MR has been completed or not.
Completing the medicals upfront will not improve your chances, but may speed up the process a bit.
Your application can be rejected based on medical conditions at any time.

I think the best time to do an upfront medical would be the time when you note from GCMS that your eligiblity is set to pass and before receive the medical requirement, this kinda avoids additional unnecssary costs and helps speed up the process a bit. Just my own 2 cent!

I know this is applicant's cost.
Do we see many people rejected with upfront medicals?

yes there are still people who get rejected after upfront medical test.
there are even people who received rejection email after medical request from CIC and after paying RPRF.
upfront medical will NOT increase your chance of becoming PR,
but will speed up the process (IF you will get your PR)
and upfront medical can be used when you have a unique situation where medical exam isnt available when requested.

Also passport is a must but AOR isnt required from all physicians.
for example, my friend and I both did upfront medical and there was no mention of AOR.
it is the best to follow the instructions given by YOUR physician.
