Hi Guys,

I received my passport back with the visa stamped along with the COPR. Finally !

Now I have two queries which I am not sure where to ask, hence creating a new topic -

1. I am an Indian citizen currently living in Germany. Now the problem is the visa expiry date is in November 2016. I actually want to stay a little bit longer in Germany and move to Canada sometime mid of next year. But as i understand we have to apply for the PR card in Canada before the expiry of the visa given. So my question is - Can I take couple of weeks off
(3 weeks may be ?) , visit canada, apply for the PR card and come back ? May be I could give one of my relatives canadian postal address and he could receive the PR card there ? If yes do you think 3 weeks would be sufficient for all such administrative work ?

2. Is there any other thing that I need to do before moving to canada ?

I wish everyone luck who are waiting for the PPR/COPR !

Cheers!

Not really all that unique - if you search there are heaps of threads on this topic.

Long story short, if you have a relative you can list an address for to get sent your PR card, you could land and turn around and fly back out on the next flight.

Congratulations on [almost] completing your journey to PR!

1. Applying for PR won't take any time, it is done automatically at the airport's immigration desk when you'll be doing your landing. So yes, you can do that and return to Germany the very next day, if you wanted.
You can provide your relatives' address for the PR card, it should arrive in a couple months, if I'm not mistaken. Note that there were some cases some time ago when the IRCC required new photos, or something, which caused problems for people who were not in Canada at that moment.
Another thing is, you won't be able to return to Canada without your PR card, as the immigration visa is single-entry. You'll need your relatives to mail the PR card to you, or get a permanent resident travel document.

Other things you might want to do while in Canada during your short landing is getting a SIN, applying for a health card, maybe opening a bank account.

2. That really depends on your personal situation. There are checklists and good advice on IRCC and the provinces' websites though that will help plan your pre-arrival actions.

Good luck!

Thanks Ozlis & Ellia !! Nice that I could plan my stuff now. +1 for both of you :)

Ellia , You mentioned about the Permanent Resident Travel document in case I am not able to get the PR card mailed to me.
What kind of document would this be ? Do you mean some kind of visa from the resident country again or they have some specific kind of document only for these kind of scenarios which i need to get applying officially while still in Canada during my short trip?

How long do you think i would need for SIN - Health card - Bank account etc etc ?

Cheers!

Its technically not a visa, but a prove of your PR status so you can get on a plane or boat or bus to enter Canada, or else the airline or the operator won't let you get on board. You can apply in canadian embassy usually takes few days to 2 weeks.

SIN number is instant, the card itself takes 6 wks.
Bank account is instant, just bring some cash to deposit
health card usually 6 weeks.

I think the previous post answers your questions very well, I'll just add a link to the PRTD information:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/travel-document/

Note that one of the eligibility requirements is that you don't have a PR card yet. So if your card is issued and delivered to your relatives, I'm not sure if there will be any complications because of that.
