Hello everyone,
I am getting ready to file for outland for my wife.
She's a U.S. citizen.
What is the fastest way to get a police clearance? I'd like to send the package as soon as I can

Thank you.

I read other threads about channeler and it takes a lot less than the wait than having to go thru the FBI. If there's a way, I'd like to skip the 3 months or whatever wait time to get her police clearance.

Okay. You can certainly try to submit a police clearance that isn't what IRCC requires.

Does channeler get you the FBI clearance faster, or is it something completely different?

If you read other threads saying it was okay (I haven't, my fiancee is Russian) is there a reason why you think your experience would be different?

Oh okay, I did a search. A channeler just gets you the FBI clearance faster. So you still must submit an FBI clearance, you're just paying a premium to get it faster.

I would encourage you to find a channeler approved by the FBI.

I am not sure what to do at this point, a 3-month wait sounds ridiculous to me tbh, I hope there's a faster way.
I'd like to hear from other US-Canada couples and see what they went thru.

If you think a 3-month delay is ridiculous, just wait until you run into the spousal sponsorship process.

Although I will correct myself, as I posted above, a channeler is a service provider that gets you an FBI report. You can probably use those without issues.

You can apply electronically. You will get your results 3-5 business days after they receive your fingerprints. It is MUCH faster than sending the application through the mail. You still mail in your fingerprints and they match it to your electronic application. I had the results in my hand about a week after I mailed my fingerprints in.

Go to a channeler to get your fingerprints done, then send them in and do the online application. Should only take 2 weeks max to get your results back. We just did this last week, so hopefully will see the background check come back before Friday.

@PricncessCRV and @saddlepatch, are you guys talking about the same approach?

@PrincessCRV, it sounds like you chose option 1 from the FBI website where you give your email and then you get a link with a pin, fill out the application and send your finger prints in the mail? Using DS-258 card (which has to be printed at home? How do we print it? How do we fill it?)

@saddlepatch, it sounds like you went in person to a list on channeler from the FBI website?

Which approach is better?
Thanks a bunch

I’ll be starting my US to Canada app process soon (3 months or less)...are the fingerprints something that can be done in advance to avoid additional wait time? FWIW, I already have FBI clearance through my current employer, would IRCC accept those or do I need to do it all over again?

Yes, you are correct. I just went to the FBI website I posted above and used the eDO option. I printed the card at home on card stock and took it to the crime lab in Kansas City where I live. They charged $16 to make the fingerprint impressions for me. They actually had the correct fingerprint cards there, so I wouldn't even have needed to bring one. Alternatively, you can do the fingerprints yourself. There are tips for how to get good impressions and what they are looking for on that same link, but I wanted to make sure they were done correctly since I've heard stories of people who sent in prints they had taken themselves and had issues with readability and had to re-do them.

I don't know much about the channelers or how much they charge, but it's easy to do this all yourself if you want to. I just googled where to get fingerprints taken in my city. Most police departments or crime labs do them since lots of people need the FBI check for employment. If you apply electronically, you will get your results in 3-5 business days after they receive your fingerprints, otherwise it takes 14-16 weeks if you apply by mail. They will email you a copy that you can print out (that will be accepted by CIC as the original). Or you can wait for it to come in the mail a few days after that. They look exactly the same though since there is no special paper for it.

It can be done in advance, and you do need to send in the FBI certificate upfront with your spousal application. One caveat is that you don't want to do it too far in advance because they will usually ask for another one if it expires while your application is being processed (usually good for 12 months). I had FBI clearance from my employer as well, but you'll still need to do it again so that you can have the current certificate to send in.

US Citizens can use channelers and literally get their FBI PCC within seconds.
