Applying Outland, through London.
GF is Canadian, I'm Irish.

Q1: Police Clearances
- I have received my Canadian clearance.
- I arrived here from Ireland last year on a 1 year Visa, for which I need to give an Irish Police clearance.
Must I now provide another such clearance from the Irish Police (Gardai)?
Would not that 1 Year Visa (above), and the fact that I have resided only in Canada since leaving Ireland, discount the need for another iteration of the Garda clearance?

Q2: Letterhead
- Who should I address my various letters to?
This is what I currently have:

To: Consular Officer
Canadian High Commission
Immigration Section
38 Grosvenor Street
London
W1K 4AA
United Kingdom

Any help appreciated!

Yes you will need to get another police clearance from Ireland. When you submit them they are only allowed to be 3 months old. So if you got one done a year ago you would need a new one. If Ireland for instance puts and expiration date on their police clearances that does not matter. What matters is the date it was issued.

yes, you'll still need a new police report.

but..I haven't lived In Ireland since I left last march. What is the point of a police clearance from a country I 'm not even considered a resident in, esp. if I've already been cleared by that same police force prior to being issued a visa?

i.e. the Irish Police clearance states that I'm clean up to when I got granted the visa to Canada, and the Canadian Police clearance states that Im clean from when I landed to the present day..

Re letters, this is just the narrative, etc - I want it to appear professional, etc.

just do the police check over. you know it won't say anything new, but it's the same rules for everyone, no exceptions, you know?? I know it's a hassle, you know it's a hassle, we all know it's a hassle, but it's a requirement.

yeah, it's a pain in the rear, so are a lot of things about the application. you need a current report, so just get it, you know? don't worry about whether it makes sense or not.

So subbmitt it this week just include a letter stating you are waiting on the Irish report and as soon as it arrives you will forward it,maybe by the time it gets to the embassy and they send you your letter with the B file number it will have come in and you can submitt it.

I agree with Iarblue. Submit your application, include the out of date clearance from Ireland with a note attached saying that you've requested a new clearance and will send the updated one when it is received. You could even state in your note that because you have been in Canada since the last clearance was issued you expect the same result. But as others have said, they will require one that is less than 3 months old at the time you PR app is received. So your options are to wait until they tell you they need an updated one (which will likely delay your processing) or go ahead and get one. Best wishes. Allison

Irish I don't think you actaully needed the Canadian Police Clearance unless Canada requests it.

Ive been there over a year, so Id say they would in the end. Better to pre-empt.

what do you mean address??

for letters I just had people address their support letters to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. They're not actually getting mailed, so I didn't think it particularly mattered.

In terms of sending the entire package? You send it to Case Processing Centre Missisauga, assuming you're applying outland. There's an address for regular mail (i.e. Canada Post) and there's an address for couriers (fed-ex, DHL, etc etc). Both work just the same.
