Hi All,

I am planning to visit canada in April. And my passport expiry is on 21st October 2018.
From few sites i came to know that trv validity is until passport expiry or 10 year which ever is is shorter. is this true? could you share me CIC links please.

Could some one let me know the processing times for TRV (i am planning for april) and how good are the chances for getting it if i apply now considering Oct 21st is my passport expiry.

please let me know if i am posting in wrong thread and redirect me to the right one.

U need to have minimum 6 months validity of ur passport when u fly otherwise u maybe refused entry and it takes around one month for visa to be processed and its depends on individual circumstances and documents. I wud suggest u to renew ur passport then only apply. U might get passport within 1 week or 2.

The validity of my Canadian tourist visa was a day less than the expiry of my passport.
As suggested by others above go in for renewal of passport and then apply.

Not all trv’s are for 10years or for the validity of the passport. IRCC decides how long the TRV is valid for. All you can do is request it. They will decide based on the application, travel history, risk of overstay, etc. You could end up with a 6 month single entry or a 10 year multi entry. No way to tell.

My friend has a Canadian PR Visa and she is going to travel this April. I am planning on accompanying her to Canada by getting a TRV. What reason should I be mentioning in the application and to the Visa Officer (if necessary) on my travel to Canada so that my application is accepted without any delay and doubt. Should / not be mentioning I am accompanying her? I am planning on returning within 10 days and I have a loan account currently and a permanent job back here in India. So I do not have any ideas of staying back / working there.

Please suggest.

If you don't have a Canadian host (specifically, relatives or family) then you would be applying as a tourist.

Not a good idea as she would be moving long-term to Canada

1. Have you traveled to other visa-required countries?

2. What is the purpose of your visit? Stating you want to accompany your friend won't work

3. What other ties can you prove to India: How long have you been employed at your current employer? Do you own property or land? Or have a lease in your name? Are you married and have children? Or live with dependent family members? Do you have a strong financial situation with financial investments and a good bank balance?

Yes i have travelled to australia on job purpose earlier. stayed there for 10 months and returned back.
yes i can show good bank balance

As you suggested i will put in as tourist only visiting some famous places like niagara falls. what prrofs do i need to show in such cases?

current employer - i have been working from past 7 months. I dont own any property currently and i stay in a rented flat and i can show the lease agreement if required.
I am not married currently and live independently. My parents work in another city and i visit every weekend. yes i can show good bank balance.

can you let me know on what basis a tourist visa is being issued?

Unfortunately, your previous Australia visit will not help because it was not for tourism/it was long-term/for work.

You will need to research/Google and prepare a day-by-day plan for your visit with expense estimates.

IMO, your employment ties are not strong. Are your work responsibilities unique? Or can your colleagues/manager manage your work when you're away?

Yes, the lease agreement (if it is not shared accommodation) would help.

Finances are not the only criterion

A tourist visa is just that: For tourism

Quite honestly, IMO, you can certainly apply, but don't expect a TRV given your present circumstances + purpose of visit, etc. In fact, you may want to consider deferring your visit to some months later when you have established overall stronger ties (including your employment.... which is the only reason for you to return home)
