Do you guys think the results of yesterday's election will bring with them any changes to IRCC's immigration policies? There has been a lot of talk about Americans and Mexicans moving to Canada, and the IRCC website even crashed last night as the results were coming in. What do you guys think?

You have to have a masters, 3 years of work experience, and be under 30 these days to get an ITA. That weeds a lot of people out.

Most people won't qualify, but he might close the NAFTA work permit streams.

That's true. I personally believe that most of it is just "heat of the moment" talk - I doubt that many Americans will actually go through the whole process.

As an American, I've had a lot of conversations with friends about this. The majority of those that will be impacted by Trump's potential policies are African Americans, Latinos, the LGBT+ community and other minorities, most of which will have limited funds available. Even if they do have the language skills (let's face it, the proper English language is hard for some Americans to grasp) or the education needed, they're likely wrapped up in student loan debt and can't afford to save the required amount. It would take them years to do so.

Do I think there will be more single, under 30, qualified applicants coming from the States? Yes. Do I foresee a large influence? No. If there is an influx, it would take minimum of a year for people to get everything required to complete the profile.

And by then, it's likely that the whole shock of the election results will have worn off anyway.

Quite true. But I have a question here. Are American Citizens legally eligible to live and work in Canada under NAFTA ? If yes then why bother with Immigration. You can just shift with a visa ?

American and Mexican citizens can get a NAFTA visa to live and work in Canada, yes. They just need a Canadian company to offer them a job and they can apply for a work visa at the border. I guess after a few years that visa can become a permanent residency, but I'm not sure.

It is not that simple. There are only 63 professions listed under NAFTA, with specific education and experience requirements; the vast majority of Americans don't qualify. It also requires a job offer from an employer in Canada.
