Travelling Whilst Awaiting Approval

I am sponsoring my husband for his permanent residency. We both live here in Canada with our children. We are still waiting approval and the CIC website says that all applications sent in before December 2016 should receive approval by December 2017 (So they say) and they have had our application for 14months. When I log in to see the status of his application all it says is "Received".

Now the problem I have is that we would like to travel back to the UK where we are from for a family wedding this year but my husband is worried that he won't be allowed back into the Country without having his PR approved. My question is..... Can he travel in and out of the Country and just explain we are waiting for approval and maybe just give immigration at the border his UCI (Unique Client Identification Number) so they can pull up his info, OR do we need a special document to present? I am a full PR and our children are Canadian Citizens - surely they can't refuse him entry?

I've tried calling CIC but of course you can't speak to anyone EVER because they are always "Experiencing a high number of calls!"

HELP PLEASE :)

The advice I've always been given is not to leave during an inland application because if they DO deny you then it voids everything and you have to start again...

However, as British citizens they would be unlikely not to let you in because we're visa exempt. Depends on the border agent. Take as much documentation as possible. Ive heard of people not being let back in but most of the time they are, the recommendation is based on the fact in the unlikely event = you have to start over

I would highly advise against travelling outside of Canada during the processing time of your PR whether you are a British Citizen or any other Citizen of another country. The risk is too high for your application to be cancelled and for you to be ordered to leave Canada.

Have you not had anything since the application was recieved? Like sponsor approval on your side or medical/police check requests?

No Nothing. That's what's worrying me but of course I cannot talk to anyone at CIC because the customer service on the phones is awful!

It says this on the CIC website.....

"
Can I leave Canada while IRCC processes my application for permanent residence?
Yes. However, if you leave Canada while your application is being processed, you must meet all the admissibility rules before being allowed back into Canada.

If you leave Canada and want to return, you must have all the required documents to enter. This can include:

If you are unable to return to Canada, we could determine that you abandoned your application. In that case, we will not process it.

You should send a case specific inquiry. usually you receive updates at least within a couple months from what Ive read on these forums
