Travelling to Canada with the sponsor?

Hello,

This forum has been very helpful to me during my application and I hope I can find some answers to the following question also:
  • Now that I have received a confirmation of permanent residence, can I travel with my husband to Canada? My husband is a Canadian citizen currently living in Europe with me. He is the sponsor in my permanent residence application and we applied from outside of Canada (we stayed in Europe through the whole process). Our intention is to move to Canada together but I am not sure if I fall into the ''exception" column now, because I am not actually "reuniting" with him (we would be travelling together).
I know that in normal circumstances this is perfectly fine, but I am not sure how this situation can be interpreted in terms of Covid-19 restrictions.

Is anybody in the same situation? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can. You'll need the usual (passport copr eta or visa) and most importantly proof of marriage. All other covid-related requirements apply, too.

It's not an issue that you are travelling together. Although the language says 'unite' it puts no specific requirement that you first must be physically separated.

Thank you so much! I was really worried that I may get rejected for a misinterpretation and in the end, not being able to move as planned. Hope you're right and everything is ok!

It is quite important to check with the airline in advance. They should know this but it can depend. And it doesn't help you to have everything in order if the airline won't let you board.

Obviously and keep up to date with Cdn govt requirements.

Yes, that's surely what I intend to do. Hopefully, someone will also share first hand experience here or in another thread. I'm sure a lot of people have the same concerns as me.

Just to clarify you are only visiting Canada and can't move to Canada until you get PR
