Traveling to Colombia

Hello everyone,

I am looking for your input and maybe some advice:

I am from Colombia and living in Toronto. I was fortunate to be able to come to Canada in 2008 and to receive the Refugee Status not longer after that. I got my Permanent Residency in 2011 and I just applied for the Canadian Citizenship a couple of months ago. The CIC website indicates that the process could take between 24 to 36 month to complete.

I have not been back in Colombia since 1999 and will like to travel for a couple of weeks to visit my family which I haven't seen in so many years. However, I am afraid that this could cause a problem or may affect my citizenship application. I know immigration laws are a little bit tricky and complicated and situations may not apply to everyone similarly. However I will like to know if anyone has gone through a similar case and if it had any consequences or not. I will appreciate any serious comments about it.

Thank you.

This is dangerous advice: if you received refugee status then it's unlikely you can travel back as immigration can deem you not actually being in danger etc if you return to your old country: if you can go back then why claim refugee?
Seek legal advice
