Hello,

As some of you may know, Alberta has seen quite a resurgence of COVID-19 lately and since my DLI is in Alberta, I have to make a decision as to whether I should travel or not. One of my courses is delivered in-person, but I can drop it at any time and register for an online one before January 13. My DLI gives me the freedom whether I want to study from my home country or travel midsemester provided that I do not register for an in-person course given that it entails my physical presence. A few of my friends living in Alberta recommended against traveling at this time and advised waiting until it's sorted.

Any thoughts? Especially from those who intend to travel to Alberta soon.

Thank you.

I think it really depends on what your living situation will be there. Your own room, bathroom? Shared facilities? Do you rely on public transit or can you walk places?

If we decided to travel just before 30 April would that affect pgwp afterwards? I have just known that the 50% is calculated based on the number of courses which will make my Winter term exactly 50% of my program

I have not decided on any of that as I have not booked a flight ticket yet. I will look into finding an accommodation as soon as I book one because I'm not sure about when I will find an available flight from Cairo. I'm not really sure what to do at this point; travel or stay till it's safe to go...

I don't have an exact clue regarding that; the length of my program is 4.5 years. But my best guess would be that the start date of your studies / travel date shouldn't affect your PGWP eligibility.

I'm not sure things will change much in the next 12 months. I mean sure, eventually vaccines will be available but you can't expect things will be that different in 4 months time. I think you are the only one that can measure your tolerance for what you deem to be safe. But researching travel to/from campus, accommodation, health coverage available should be a factor in determining what is "safe" whatever that means to you.

My January session is online and all of the courses will be delivered online, no in-person courses but I still wanna go as I had already differed twice in hope things will get better and they will start the regular classes but the situation seems to be the same. I think it's better to go then to stay in hope of things will change. Change will take months, nothing much is gonna change in 4 months. So it's better to go and get used to the life there.
