I'm booked on a flight to Canada on 15th Dec for holidays with my partner etc. I'm also currently at day 28 of waiting for COPR to be sent to me.
Knowing my luck I will get my COPR after i get back to Canada, can I just get it sent over to me there and then flag pole at the USA border?

I know the timing is a little close, but I planned this trip a long time ago, and was expecting it all to be done by now.

I have a return flight out of Canada already booked and when i went through immigration last time i told them i was visiting whilst waiting for PR to go through.

yes. there is no problem with this. as long as you have your COPR, you can flagpole at a US land border.

Are you aloud to land with your COPR and not actually start the process, because it would make my life a lot easier if i "Land" after Jan 1st, so i dont have to put in a tax return this year :p

I don't understand what you mean. your COPR will have an expiry date on it, so you must land on or before that date to become a PR. if you don't you'll have to start all over again. Landing as a PR has nothing to do with filing taxes. if you don't want to start working and paying into the system then don't apply for a SIN# until you are ready to. i'm not sure how that affects filing taxes, though I doubt it will be that big of a deal if you move to Canada with less than 3 weeks left in the tax year. for most provinces there is a wait time to become a resident anyway, so I don't see what the concern is or that CRA would require you to file taxes for 2014 if you were only a PR for 3 weeks or less.

If you really want to you can. Just don't lose the COPR! It's up to you, within the expiry date, when you want to "Land"

So you don't get issued a SIN when you land?
I'm going to be working for an Australian company as soon as i land and was under the impression any earned income, local or international, means you have to put in a tax return for that year, albeit for 2 weeks. If i need a SIN to put in a tax return, then i guess i wait until after Jan 1st before applying.
If that is the case then i will just land as normal, if i get my copr before i leave, and then apply for SIN later.

no, you do not get your SIN# at landing, it has nothing to do with immigration. a SIN# is issued by Service Canada. the only reason some people get it "at landing" is because some terminals at specific airports have SIN# kiosks to make it easy. technically, you don't need to get a sin# until you start working in canada. it's something that needs to be done at a service Canada location.

as for filing taxes, i'll defer to someone else that knows more than I do. though, I don't think your assumption is correct.
