Hi guys

I'm reading in these posts that you need to send your physical passport with your application....is this the case I can't see this on the checklist, if so how long do they keep it for?

Also a big one for me is can you travel overseas once you have applied for your PR, before its approved. I'm Australian living in Canada and love to travel so can I still go abroad for a few weeks without jeopardising my application or reentry into Canada ?

I believe that Aussies can send a photocopy of their passport (Bio page). Double check your Document Checklist to confirm, but it should read "send photocopies unless specifically asked for originals" (or similar).

If you're submitting an Outland application (even though you are in Canada), short trips abroad will not impact your application.

If for some reason you were denied re-entry into Canada, your application would continue to be processed.

Hi

Australians are visa-exempt, so you will not have to send your actual passport at any point in the application.

As Ponga said, apply outland and you should haves no issues with travelling.

Don't bother with the Call Centre. More often than not, they provide incorrect information.

I went to an immigration officer and she advised me to apply IN Canada which is what the path were going down, does that change travel plans !

Apply outland. Sydney is a very fast office. You can be in Canada while you apply outland.

If you apply inland, leave Canada and are refused re-entry, your PR app would be considered abandoned.

YES! Don't apply Inland unless you really need a work permit in ~4 months! You can apply Outland even though you are in Canada.

Most Aussies are completing the Outland application incredibly fast. Check the Outland Sydney thread (and look at the spreadsheet) to see how fast!

Inland applicants are cautioned NOT to leave Canada during the painfully slow process (over two years, but it's apparently getting faster). If they leave and are denied re-entry, their application is in serious jeopardy.
