Hi everyone. I have a situation here that I'd like you to advice on. I sent my passport and photos to Ottawa today, April 18. I want to travel home August 1st, There's no gurantee that the PR card would've reached me by then. What is my options?

- Do you think I should forfeit 4 months closer to the citizenship by waiting and landing when I arrive back on September 1st?

- Do you think I might get the Card in less than, say 3 months, and then be able to freely travel as a PR?

most importantly,
- I have a valid multi entry visa and a valid study permit. Would these still work and I can use them to go home and enter Canada again, before the card reaches me? any idea if that's an option?

thanks for your ideas and recommendations.

As PR, you have total right to travel out of Canada the minute you become one. You can travel into Canada without PR card using PRTD. You can apply in the Canadian consulate embassy in your country.

Visa and study permits are automatically superseded by the PR and will not work anymore.

It is safer to wait until you come back from Egypt if your CoPR still valid, but you'll miss 3.5 months with no PR. As of today the processing time is 56 days for the PR card to come, so theoretically you have more than enough time to land and wait for the cards, and if they don't arrive on time you can always apply for a PRTD from Cairo. But As you and me know, Cairo isn't fun these days and if something happens they might close the embassy again like they did in the past. So it's up to you.

BTW....... MABROOOK :D

You case have similar as mine, I was concerned about PR card and I went back home country due to my family reason after landed only few weeks, I though I wasn't able to return Canada without PR card. However, I was told from Canadian embassy in my country that the processing time of PRTD would takes 10 working days. I have no choice so I applied PRTD via VSF Canada in my country and eventually I could not believed I got the PRTD just 5 days after submitted application. So I would suggest you can contact Canadian embassy or VFS in your country regarding PRTD processing time if not take so long to obtain it you can go back to you country, enjoy and relax over there, in the mean time you PR card may be arrive at the mail box where you residing in Canada so you can ask someone to courier the card to your country while you are on vacation.:)

All the best

Regarding the question in bold, I believe that when you land as PR, they cancel any valid Canadian visa in your passport by drawing a big X across them. (Full disclosure: my information is accurate as of 1 or 2 years ago, so maybe they still do this, maybe not). But if they still do this then it would be impossible for you to get on a plane with said visa.

I guess the decision will depend on your appetite for risk. On the one hand, land ASAP and trust that the card would reach you before you leave (56 days + mailing time), and in case they don't then apply for PRTD. On the other hand, play it safe and wait..
