Translated birth certificate - rejected

I applied for immigration with my hubby as the sponsor. We both live in the US, but I was born in China. I mailed in my app which included a copy and translation of my Chinese birth certificate which was signed by the translator and notarized. Now I just got a letter from CIC saying that I am missing or have incomplete documentation for birth certificate. The 2nd page is asking that I must attach "certified copy of the original document" and "certified translation of the document." I'm not sure what else needs to be done??? Do I have to go to China to get a certified copy? I am the principal applicant and we have no children or other dependents.

It sounds like maybe you only submitted a regular photocopy of your birth certificate, and they are now asking you to submit a certified copy instead. The CIC is looking for certified copy of the original document and certified translation of the document. Obviously, the one you submitted are not. You need to ask your kins in China to find a translation company that specialized in making certified copy of the original document and certified translation of the document for the immigration purpose. There are a lot of those in China.

Ahhhh, thank you! Yes, I just photocopied my birth certificate but did not have the copy certified! I thought they just needed the notarized statement from the translator saying she is competent. Hopefully that is the only thing missing. All my close family now live in US, so no one can help me get a true certified copy from China.

If you have the original document with you, you can use the Chinese consulate to translate and notarize the document.

Actually, just checked the Chinese Consulate website here in the US, and they only authenticate documents originating from US to bring back to China. They cannot authenticate documents originating from China. My document is so old (1979), I'm pretty sure not even the local government in China will authenticate it if I go back there! :-[

I got my spouses birth certificate first made into a certified copy by a notary by printing a photocopy and bring it, along with the original, to the notary so that he could confirm it was an exact copy and then he signed and stamped it, saying it was a certified copy, and then translated it by a certified translator who provides an affidavit which has been sworn in front of a notary, along with their translation. So as long as your copy and translation are certified in front of a notary then it shouldn't matter who does it for you, I just looked up certified translators in my area. I hope it's an easy fix for you!

The only thing I can see missing was them writing the statement "I certify this is a true copy of the original document".

Yes it is fine that the same person notarized and certified the translation as long as they are qualified to do so. Yes you did miss that statement

If you get a certified translator in good standing from ATIO or STIBC in Canada, their translation is good without the need for an affidavit.

That answer is misleading as they still need to notarize the translation as true to the original. This is where people keep going wrong. Whether it is two people or one or a member of those organizations. The copy must first be notarized and the translation certified.

Hi you can translate the documents with translator after that that original translated document attested by notary and send that original to cic

Good point but only those in good standing in the group you earlier mentioned. All other translators must certify.
