Hi

Reading your previous posts, you are from India?

If so, you will not even be allowed to board a plane to Canada without your PR card or a PR Travel Document.

Yes I hold an Indian passport and currently in Canada, I do have to fly to US after coming back to Canada. I thought of transiting through Canada so that i don't want to change the entire return journey.

As canuck_in_uk explained, you need to either have a valid PR card in hand or a Travel Document.

What about my work permit and work visa that I have? I have a work permit and visa till August 2016. I am landing in a few days and I am planning to leave for India. Would it be possible for me to enter on the basis of my valid work permit and visa before I have received my PR card? Thanks in advance.

Your work permit and TRV are no longer valid after you land as a PR.

If you are going to USA, then PR card is not required. For transit, your USA visa is sufficient. Like we transit via Europe to canada.

Your airline should have no problem in getting you on board with work permit and work visa.
Its after you land you can use your COPR to enter into Canada.
You should be fine bud.

Hi,
I landed in June and still waiting for the PR card as well. I am planning to travel in Sept.
I am holding a British Passport. Just wondered if i can travel to USA and coming back to Canada with the CoPR document? In case if i haven't received my PR card by that time.

Thanks

OP is asking about flying TO CANADA to then transit to the US. A US visa does not allow an Indian citizen to board a plane to Canada.

Wrong. A non visa-exempt PR cannot board a plane to Canada without a PR card or PRTD. The COPR is only sufficient when crossing the Canada-US border on foot or in a private vehicle.

You can travel on the strength of just your visa-exempt passport. There is no need to take your COPR.

So what about people from non exempt countries travel home and come back even on study permit or work permit. I am sure we can do that. and airline doesn't care as long as you have study work permit and visa.

?

Non visa-exempt people holding a study and work permit must have a valid TRV to travel to Canada. That is what allows them to board the plane, not the study or work permit.

A non visa-exempt PR cannot get a TRV, so they must have either the PR card or a PRTD to board a plane to come to Canada.

canuck_in_uk/ Scylla - May I ask you the source for what you are stating about transit through Canada into USA/any other country for permanent residents? I cant find any information other than the usual transit visa.

Departure airport - I have US visa to show which is my destination.
Transit airport - Wont my COPR work? if I have the onward ticket on the same day.

Thanks.
