After nearly a week of negotiation between the striking foreign service and Treasury Board, an attempt to reach an agreement to enter binding arbitration has failed, leading diplomats to move ahead with walkouts at fifteen of Canada’s largest visa processing centres.
After nearly two months of job action, the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) offered to enter third-party binding arbitration last week. Minutes before the offer expired Tuesday at noon, Treasury Board, with whom the union has been bargaining its contract, agreed to enter binding arbitration, with conditions.
