Last Tuesday my family took oath as the citizens of Canada. I myself became a Canadian in September of 2015.

My journey started as a PR aspirant living in USA, way back in 2009 November. We became permanent residents of Canada in April 2012 and now all of us are citizens!

This forum had been very helpful all through this long process. Reading the experiences from many members of this forum kept my spirits up. Many members helped me answering my questions and sharing my frustration (particularly while waiting for my passport from LA Visa office). Want to thank all of you and wish you all the very best.

Here is my timeline,

I had my OATH today, went great.
On the pink invitation paper it said to be there for 1:00PM but we were all in the room around 1:40 and by 2:20 we were out. You can stay longer to take pictures if you want.

Overall it was a great and fast experience :) Good luck everyone.

Citizenship
We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on June 9, 2015.

We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on August 5, 2015.

We started processing your application on September 14, 2015.

We sent you a notice on February 1, 2016 to appear and write the citizenship test on February 16, 2016 at 11:45 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.

We sent you a notice on March 2, 2016 to appear and take the oath of citizenship at the citizenship ceremony to be held on March 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM. The notice you will receive will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us


I applied from Mississauga but my file was transfered to Scarborough.

Dear All,

I guess not many people will check their ecas status after taking the Oath,
if anybody checked, would you please let me know how long it took
the status to be changed from 'DM' to 'Complete' or from 'in process'
to 'Complete'.

Made me curious......checked my Ecas and still showed DM. Our oath day was last March 23 :D :D. Will check again in a few days since it's the long weekend. Will let you know :) :)

Good to see a lot of people are getting their citizenship oaths under a year :p
still waiting for mine, gave my fingerprints december 21, 2016 still nothing..
has anyone else been asked for fingerprints?

applied : june 3, 2015
AOR: august 20, 2015
Process: september 8, 2015
Test: october 22, 2015
fingerprints: december 21, 2015

also what is gcms/atip notes?
and on my ecas even though i did my test and passed, handed in my fingerprints
it doesn't mention it
it just says

Hi Victoria,
I just checked my Ecas today March 26..... it says "Complete".......

last line says....

6. You became a Canadian citizen on March 23, 2016. :D :D :D


took 3 days from DM to Complete

Timeline:

1- Application received on june 10th 2015
2- In progress on august 20th 2015
3- Test done on december 1st 2015
4- RQ received during interview due to a shortage of 5 days in physical presence that I admitted during interview. I made an error in my application on one trip depature date.
5- RQ sent on december 29th 2015
6- DM in ecas on march 27th 2015

Waiting for any news now ! :)
