Hi,

For all those who have already flown from India. Please advice me if while taking flight from India, does any body ask for Income Tax return formalities to be completed before leaving India? I remember long back at Ahmedabad airport we were stopped and asked to wait until nth moment to board a flight to Canada as I did not have a IT return filled though I was just a student but over 18 yrs of age...

Is this still an issue?

Also, do the security guys not allow us to take any eatables during flight like say bread jam, paratha etc? My daughter is 4 and she may not be really on for the flight meals, so i was thinking of carrying some cooked stuff for the flight duration...

Please advice.

Hi Friends,

I am booking my excess luggage as Cargo in the same flight.... If anybody has already taken cargo, please advice as in how easy or difficult is it to get cargo cleared in Toronto and in short what is the procedure?

I am travelling by BA on 17th April from India to Toronto.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Shef.. That would have been the case because of the ECNR stamp law india had a few years ago....

But now it is no longer the case and you need no ECNR stamp... So beassured that it'll be fine

Take care

I have landed here 3 months back. Let me tell you some important points:

- Your SIN number will be issued at airport but the SIN card will arrive at the address which you will provide to them after 2 weeks.

- The PR card will arrive around 2 months after your arrival to Canada

- You be eligible for the medical exactly after 3 months of your arrival but you can apply for it once you get your PR card

- The most important thing for the new immigrant is to have your new bank account because your bank statement is considered as the proof of address.

- The problem of Canadian experience will interfare you everywhere but there is a solution for that as well. There are few exceptions as well and the most noteable is the Security Job. Its training cost around $ 250-300 and the licensing cost is 140 (including exam and license fee). Better start a security job so that you can have an earning and the other point is that you will have a canadian experience as well. Dont think that if you are an engineer and do a security job, this has nothing to do with your own field. Here, every profession is respectable and the core thing i.e. the canadian experience can be fulfiled by this shortcut where you can earn as well and free from sitting idle. Also, this will help in establishing your credit history and a good credit history is part of life in canada without which, you cannot survive.

Yes. You can land first.

About the address, You need to ask your bank. Almost every canadian bank has a new comer program. It allows you to open an account in your native country and wire money into that account. Once you land in Canada, you can activate that account.

I found this site to be useful:
https://sites.google.com/site/newcanadianimmigrants/checklist-for-newcomers---landed-immigrant

You also might want to enrol in CIIP.
