-better be avoided unless u have no other choice...

1. The largest neighborhood of Toronto,
2. Older developments - aged housing,
3. Congested streets - parking headaches,
4. The only neighborhood which has 3 divisions (Stns) of Toronto Police [take the hint!],
5. In 2009, the largest predawn operation [in Canadian History] fetched 84 criminals here, many hardened ones!
6. Quite a few gangs operate here (but ordinary folks aren't affected much),
7. The Bikers' Gang r a menace,
8. Closer to U of T,
9. Some pockets r good, especially the North - nearer to 401(Expressway),
10. Few locations have multi-million$$$ homes [Bayview],
11. Locations bordering Pickering r far from Toronto-Downtown, but nice/newer developments there,
12. Some areas have cheaper housing, but also the menace that comes with it,
13. Locations closer to DVP r Ok - advisable to reside for newcomers,
14. Kennedy Street is a safe bet for residential purposes,
15. If it has to be Scarborough - nothing much wrong with it,
16. If Scarborough is not a must - Avoid.
17. If u have friends/relatives there - go ahead.
18. North York (similar distance from Toronto-Downtown) is a better place,
19. So would be the suburbs of Mississauga, Brampton & Markham (closest to Downtown).
20. Oh, every day there is @ least one [1] fatal shooting here [if that's a/ny point to be considered!!!].

Your description about Scarborough might be a bit scary but for now it is our practical choice, so we have to bear with the negative side of it and instead look at the bright side. I'd like to know more about the industries/companies sitting in that place, are there enough of those to chance upon for job opportunities? What about schools for d kids?

Btw, what does DVP means? Is the Galloway road area in Scarborough a good one for newcomers?

U'd generally be Ok with $2500-3500 per month.
-House Rent: $700-1300 depending on what/where u locate/chose. Anything less than $700 would be shady!
-Heat & Hydro: If u take a condo, add another $100 a month to the above.
-Cable/Internet/Phone: $125-200 depending ur usage/preferance. Anything less than $125 would be tearsome!
-Conveyance: $100-200 depending on ur efficiency. Anything less than $100 would make u immobile!
-Fuel: Add $200-300 on the above if u have a car. Else u r semi-static... not hapenning 4 u here!
-Auto-Ins.: $400-600 if u buy a car. U may chose not to initially... but down 6 months - u must have [else u might be in deep sh1t]!
-Food: $1200-1700 depending on ur livability. Anything less than $1200 - and u aren't 'alive'!
-Outings: $300-700 depending on ur lifestyle. Anything lesser than $300 would make u socially dead!

now i have a few more queries:
1. can you please share your opinion regarding the top 5-10 okay to nice neighborhoods in mississauga where a newcomer can look for an apartment with stress on the accessibility to public transport, grocery, daycare, and rental rates?
2. is there an abundance for jobs in the medical field for international graduate physicians in mississauga? like researcher or physician assistants, etc.

Its an excellent place and expensive too. Its not that far from downtown. So all areas around the Yonge line leading to Toronto and North York are really good.

I am planning to rent a 1BR in malton. Usually i understand there is a 11 month contract? What is the option is one wants to move out early? 1 month notice would do?

Any recommended place in malton area?I have a 10 yrs old daughter going to school (need to find one).
