I am a Markham applicant. Sent my application on November 22nd and haven't heard anything since :(
Also the initial processing is done through Sydney NS, and as all applications go there for initial processing, it's quite possible that there might be some delay.

Thanks for the info..true, the processing of immigration and citizenship applications is always a mystery nobody has able to decipher. Maybe depends on processing officer?
Btw, are you also from scarborough / markham area? What r ur timelines?

Well, there is a person Maffy01 who got test invite today for Feb 23 from Scarborough office and this person's application was delivered on 16th Oct. so your test invite might be on way as well.

Thank you, let's hope CIC could be a little bit more predictable...

Thanks. Your timelines look encouraging that you got citizenship within 6 months. We hope our timelines remains the same now as well. Though there is a good chance that it'll get a bit delayed due to large vol of applications from Oct 11, 2017 when a lot of people became eligible due to new law.
If you are single, have rock solid and super straight forward residency case (like zero travel within the past five years, or easily provable trips), and are not from countries which normally require a lot of background checks (the last point is unfortunate, but we cannot deny the fact that applicants from these countries get unjustifiably scrutinized WAY more than others), then your application should be smooth sailing :)

But keep in mind that Scarborough still remains the one of the slowest offices in the country, mostly due to sheer volume alone (and the fact that surrounding offices often send their cases to Scarborough as well).

The thing is nobody knows what a straightforward case can be...Well, for me, I sent application just for myself as my wife became PR just last yr...also I do have couple of vacations in last 3-4 yrs to UK and India, but nothing long term...also not sure if India is one of those countries for whom they do extensive/ unjustifiable scrutiny...so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best :):)

I called the IRCC call center for the first time today because I was a little bored of seeing "In process" since beginning of December.

The agent "seemed" knowledgeable and explained to me the different stages an application goes through. In short, some get test invite first and then background checks like criminality and security are performed, while for others these checks are performed first and then test invites are sent out.

In my case, according to her, my criminality and security checks have been cleared, and if they don't request anymore documents then next step is test invite. Although she didn't say how long that could take, which is understandable.

This all lines up with what others have been speculating and what I've believed to be true for a while now. I ordered GCMS notes 2 weeks ago, let's see if they reflect the same info.

I was told the same information and have same situation as you. Let's keep each other updated. BTW, do you know your local office? Mine is Scarborough.

Oh, right... there is one information that I am confused, according to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/canadian-citizenship/grant/adult.html, it is hard to believe that there are two possible paths; although it is possible CIC did it this way to handle the flood better. If it is true, I would give CIC a huge thumb up :)

Clearances
The applicant must not be subject to the prohibitions contained in sections 21 and 22 of the Act.

Applicant must pass all clearances: immigration, criminality (RCMP) and security (CSIS).

The CPC-S initiates all clearances. Validity for clearances is as indicated below.

  • Immigration: one year
  • Criminality: one year
  • Security: four years

Sounds good. I forgot to ask about the local office, but I ordered GCMS notes, so I'll know in 2 weeks or so.

Hi Razerblade, what number did you call IRCC, 1-888-242-2100 1 1 4 1? I called them too, but the agent couldn't tell me much. All he said was that my application is in process and they are still doing background check. He does not see details like you mentioned, security check, criminality check, language check, residence check, etc. Did you call any other number?
