Writing on behalf of my friend who decided on Canada very late, he is in a urgency to apply and the IELTS dates are too late to meet deadlines. Question is will TOEFL be accepted by the visa officer for granting a student visa?
Wrote to the CiC office this is the reply:
Dear Sir/Madam,
This is in response to your recent email enquiry to the Immigration Section of the Consulate General of Canada.
IELTS/TOEFL testing is not mandatory for the assessment of your file. However, it is strongly recommended that you take an IELTS test if you intend to study in English.

As you will need to satisfy a visa officer that you will observe the conditions of your admission to Canada and will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for your stay, a proven and verifiable ability to communicate in the language of your studies will assist the officer in making that determination.
