I also used Td and yeah they can see if its cashed or not
Give them the DD number or tell them the date and account from which it was made.
For sure they can track it

Agree...somewhere in this blog...the steps are mentioned on how the TD bank person can look into DD...if they have cashed it or not...

Wohoooo :D :D :D :D :D - am super excited

Jan 5, 2016, 10:28 AM - CC charged on 22 March 2016 - no emails - have not checked the status on CIC yet.

How do I check the status on CIC. I used my UCI number but nothing. Should it be my details or the parents - they wont have an identification number though.

Do I have to wait for email or mail communication to get the application number?

It seems almost everyone whose application reached on Jan 4th got in and there is a decent chance that some applications from Jan 5 as well getting in.

I was trying to extrapolate the expected time for processing based on available info instead of just guesses.
According to the following link, CIC should have 42387 at the start of 2015.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2013/2013-10-29a.asp

With 5k apps, backlog go up by 10k (assuming 2 per application on average). so 52387 ~53k.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2015-01-16.asp
The above page says backlog elimination is on track and 20k to be admitted in 2015. so backlog should be around 33k at the end of the year.

With 10k apps incoming in 2016, backlog goes back to approx 53k (same assumption of 2 per app average).

It looks likes if intake of parents is 20k each year and they take in 10k apps each year, parents backlog will no longer be going down and as intake and visa issued would be similar in numbers. For 2016 the intake is the same at 20k according to the following link.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2016-03-08.asp

Based on the above, for those of us who are just now getting charged, we can assume we are near the end of the 53k.
So at the end of this 2016, we would be at around 33k mark.
At the end of 2017, we would be 13k.
By the end of 2018, we should be processed.

Also if your application is near the top of the pile, you should see movement on your application sometime next year while those applied in 2014 and 2015 should see a lot of things happening this year.

Anywhere from 2-3 years for the entire lot of 2016.

According to CIC, they are currently processing nov 2011 applications. After they are done with Nov and Dec apps of 2011, the next ones will be 2014 since 2012 and 2013 were closed.

Have I missed any document that has more info regarding this?
I have seen much larger backlog numbers thrown about (over 100k). What are they based on?

. In your very first link of Backgrounder-Action plan for faster reunification you see the TWO graphs. In both the graphs in 2012 the backlog is 125600 and then dotted line future backlog is 42387. So in 2012 actual backlog is 125600.Please correct if I am wrong

As of Oct 5, 2015 backlog was 55,098 persons (28,348 cases). Approx ~5K persons admitted under PGP in fourth quarter of 2015. Hence, the backlog as of Jan 1, 2016 should have been ~50K (all pre-2016 applications)

Source: open.canada.ca you can do your search and find detailed spreadsheets.

2018 should see most of the first 5K cases from 2016 PGP (i.e. ~10K people) getting visa issued (provided government fulfills their 20K entry target every year). Remaining 5K application from 2016 should see visa issued in 2019.

My credit card limited went down $1100 just now. thanks everybody~ Jan 5th @10:04 purolator.

Congrats!
I'm Canada post 11:18 Jan 5 signed by Mahmoud. Anyone in that batch charged?

I'm really happy for all the Jan 5 people that some applications are going through.

Congrats guys :) - this was definitely the right time to apply. With a 10K quota from the start in 2017, i'm sure it will be as tight as the 5K quota this year felt until it was increased.

So yay for 2016 PGP applicants!! :D
