Tips for 2016 (Future) PGP Applicants

I think the entire Alberta Purolator is delayed.

I noticed last year that CIC receives application in the morning.. That is why their was few applications received the next the is still within the CAP.. Hope this is till the case this year.. Hope that application will be received tomorrow morning and still have chance..

10000 was an absurd promise from the very beginning. Currently, they are processing PGP applications lodged on or before November 2011. Imagine the intake quota was adjusted this year resulting in the increase of backlog. It would not entail more cases of family unifications, but rather delayed service delivery targets. This is what happened with FSW stream, when CIC accumulated nearly 500k applications in their inventory and had to axe 300k files to bring down the processing times to 13-18 months from over 7 (!) years.

What would have helped was increasing the workforce of CIC and streamlining the service delivery routines. But Trudeau committed half a billion CAD to flying Syrians to Canada instead, while the whole CIC budget amounts for 1,320bn (and guess what, it is less than in 2015). So, I wouldn't hold my breath for any good news pertaining to the immigration program while this government is in power.

I sent an application using purolator service.
Their website notice says:
2016-01-04 06:26:00 Mississauga (east/est), ON On vehicle for delivery

what does it mean? did they lose my package?

likely they have too many info to update, I hope you will see real time delivery tomorrow

What CIC should do is accept apps for 1 full week, and then just do a random lottery to pick the 5K/10K they are accepting. Fairest way that give people applying from Toronto the same chance as someone applying from BC.

Random? It would be much more fair to base the selection on the amount of taxes paid by the applicant. Greater contributor should get a better chance

For next year application from AB,BC, if you have friends in Toronto -send it to them before dec-31 like option.

Metro Mississauga. He and other couriers started lining up at 10am on Jan 3 according my previous post and their website.

So you are saying poor people should not be allowed to sponsor their parents?

What I would base it on if anything, is length of time you've actually lived in Canada. Perhaps give priority to citizens, then PRs with X number of years as a PR, etc.

even i and many other edmontonians have our purolator also messed it up and didn't send our packages and said missed in connection and will be delivered tomm monring.

The whole idea of sponsoring is that you will assume financial responsibility and provide for the welfare of the person you are sponsoring.

What I would base it on if anything, is length of time you've actually lived in Canada. Perhaps give priority to citizens, then PRs with X number of years as a PR, etc.

Actually that is how it works. Minimum $45,000 income for each of the last 3 years if you are a couple sponsoring just one parent.

The old system if first come first served, with a long waiting time, is actually better in my opinion. They should accept all applications and process them in order received even if it makes a backlog.

There are no grounds under which to sue purolater. If you read their fine print, they cannot be legally held responsible for delayed deliveries. Pursuing them in court will be a waste of time and money. They are in the business of deliver things and have already 100% protected themselves against these types of situations.

Processing times for parents has nothing to do with actual time it takes to process the apps. It has to do with the government setting a quota on how many PGP PRs they actually issue each year. This number has to be controlled, since the majority or parents/grandparents that become PRs will not be contributing to taxes, and are at the age that is the highest users of healthcare. The crazy timelines we've seen are due to previous PGP programs allowing unlimited apps, but only allowing approval of a fixed number per year.

When the current backlog mess is sorted out, they should maintain a cap going forward that aligns with the quota of PGP PRs they intend to allow each year going forward.

There needs to be a minimum income requirement. However poster above was suggesting ranking the apps by income/taxes paid... so someone with a $100K income would have a higher spot in line vs someone still meeting LICO but with lower income. And that is not right. Once you meet basic income requirement, further income should be irrelevant.
