Congrats ! you would be landing in the new world soon..

Visa Debits cards inccur flat transaction charges & exchange rate fee loss..
Would advise you to convert INR and purchase approx 2000 CAD initially .
Debits card may be used in emergency.
On reaching Calgary , try and open an account asap .

Avg per hour rate in Calgary is Approx 12-15 CAD / hour depending on the kind of work u choose it may vary to 20 CAD / hr..

Pirixit,

1. One has to declare what funds one is bringing into Canada at the time of first landing and need to declare other funds which one may wish to bring in later.

2. You may Carry Cash / TCs / or Bankers Draft ..

3. Any Amount exceeding 10,000 CAD has to be declared to the IO upon landing..

4. Else you may also approach HSBC bank in India , they would assist in your account opening in Calagary even before you reach there , and would also assist in arranging to carry proof of funds ..

5. Ideally the money should be suficient enough to help you survive for a couple of months..

If we are lucky we may have our AOR letters this month, else it may get delayed till Jan End.. as Chirstmas time usually the entire western world is in Holiday mood & people & staff are on leave.. so just keep fingers crossed and hope it comes soon.. you also keep posted
