My husband and I just learned that we have been accepted through the Express Entry pool and have been requested to send copies of our passports so that they can send us our permanent residency visas. Hooray!
My question is this; my husband is a teacher and I work as a librarian and our intention is to spend one more school year where we are, and move to Canada in May or June of 2019. We went through a lawyer that helped us through the process of obtaining permanent residency and we were assured that, while we need to go to the border to establish our residency within a six month time frame, I believe, it will work for us to not actually physically move ourselves to Canada until next summer; our plan is to spend this school year getting set with my husband having a teaching license for Nova Scotia, finding a townhome in Halifax to purchase, etc, and then physically moving in May or June of 2019. I do have an uncle whose address we could list in Canada if we need a Canadian address prior to that, but, we would not physically be present there accept for visits until next summer.
I guess I'm looking for confirmation that this is correct, because we in no way want to jeopardize our permanent residency status. My understanding is that to maintain permanent residency, we need to be in Canada at least two out of five years, and after this coming school year, we do intend to move there and be living and working there permanently.
