Yes - declare what you have upon entering Canada (cash + cheques + other financial instruments)You are not required to declare the $1k as it is less than the amount that needs to be declared at customs. . And you do not have to declare any other funds you do not have with you at landing, answer only queries fro, CBSA officers when asked how much are you bringing into the country. The funds are not taxed even if not declared.

But then again, the country has other ways of getting taxes from you....come filing of income tax here, you will know
