depends kung ano hawak mo na passport.
Kung green pa yan - better palitan na. Kung MRP pa yan (original/first issue ng maroon passports) - pwede hintayin pa ma-expire. Eto me nakalap ako via Google:

So less wear and tear.
And lastly - consider mo na gagamitin mo pa ang passport mo for a few years onwards after na maging PR ka within this year. And hindi ka naman agad agad magiging citizen ka by 2017, so hindi ka pa magpapalit ng PP mo - I'd suggest I-renew mo to maximize the time na valid pa ang PP mo while being a PR.
Medyo matagal din mag-renew ng PP pag nasa Canada ka na, and because of travel time, turn-around time, also pupunta ka pa sa biometric capture if needed, sometimes malaking hassle. Mostly kapag me mission ang PH embassy, me kasamang PP renewal services, so marami ang nag-schedule ng PP renewal (talagang sinasadya) during missions.
