Just sent our common-law application today... should get to Mississauga in 2 days, then it will be off to Berlin. Felt so good to finally mail it!

Also, just a question.... how do you know when they receive it? Do they send something saying they got it or is everyone just using the tracking number from Canada post?

Well I sent it with Canada post, and asked for a signature. Canada post notified me saying it was successfully delivered, but a signature was not available. I guess I now have to wait for their confirmation letter and info to come.

Having to send all my clearances to Canada today via DHL - who is very reasonable!
Should be there by Thursday/Friday. We're hoping to send ours to CPC-M on the Sat ...

Common-law people keep in touch! see who makes it in first. The Common law challenge is the first person able to have a Tim Horton's with a PR card in their wallet!

You only know if they received if you had Canada Post or whomever track it. I also had a signature but Canada Post couldn't get it or something. So, I wasted around $2 on that! Anyway, this is what I did, or else I would be scared for the next 7 weeks or so worrying they never received it!

Though them 'receiving' it doesn't mean they will immediately process it...

So what kind of a day do you think i've had!?

Have currently completed all forms of which are in Canada with my Partner. Have recently received my police clearance and a number of letters of which i need to forward to my patner - put in app and send off..

Welll! Called DHL and they have a 1 to 4 days for £25
Rang FedEx they have 2 days guaranteed for £34

so i thought ill go with Fed ex as really for not alot more im gonna get it in half the time . maybe even be ready for a Friday send off to CPC M.

Booked the FedEx to pick up from me before 5pm, booked it at 1:30. 4:45 rolls around and they haven't come. so I ring up. they tell me, not to worry they will investigate at their end and it "should" get picked up today, they'll ring me and let me know...

7:25 rolls around haven't heard anything. So ring up again. Apparently the Depot has closed which was nice to know, and they will sort it out in the morning.

Its really annoying and i really dont think i can fight my case very well. obviously i feel i don't want to pay as the service they promised never happened ...

What do you do in a situation like this?!

Just checked today and Philipe has signed for my package! If you send with Canada Post, since CPC-M is a PO box, they put a slip in the PO Box saying please pick up a package behind the desk. They obtain the signature then. So I guess when Mr. Philipe picked up the packages today, he had to sign for mine! Relief to know it's in their hands and not in mine any longer!

Hi everybody I'm a little confused I sent my application already and I know they got it because I check in Canada post, but do the confirm that they receive my application? Or they just send an e mail when the sponsorship is approved? Can somebody help me? Thanks!

It depends on which visa office you are using. It seems that the answer to your question is very different for each office (just from what I've read on this forum for the last few months). For me, I sent my Application on March 27 by overnight mail and did not get confirmation from Buffalo until April 9. The confirmation was on the Ecas system. I used my husbands (sponsors) information to log in and the receipt number on top of my payment receipt that I sent in with the application. A few weeks later I received a letter.

By the way, I found this out late in the game, but hopefully it will help you guys out earlier. If you send an email to your visa office it allows them to contact you via email. It could save you some time when you don't have to wait for snail mail, but keep checking your mail and update your mailing address because the information seems to be inconstant. Good luck.

Acknowledgement of Receipt

The first communication issued by the Canadian immigration Processing Post is the Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR). The AOR provides the file number assigned to the application as well as the official receipt for the processing fees paid to the consulate. The issuance of the AOR clearly indicates that the application was received at the immigration processing post and that a file has been created and opened. The AOR does NOT contain the assessment decision for the case.

This is what an AOR letter will look like, so you know what the first few lines will say.

"This is to advise you that your application for permanent residence has been received at the xxxxx and that a file has been created for you. Your file number appears above.
Quote this number when corresponding with our office. Your receipt for the processing fees is attached.

The next step: Your file has been placed in a queue awaiting assessment. All applications are processed according to the date on which they are received within the xxxx category. Once your file has been assessed, you will receive additional information and instructions. At that time, you may also receive medical forms with instructions."
