You are visa-exempt if you do not require a visa to visit Canada... British Citizens do not require a visa, and thus are visa-exempt. Indian nationals, for example, are non-visa-exempt, as they DO require a visa to visit Canada.

Everything is a case-by-case basis, but in about 99% of cases, if the applicant is visa-exempt, like your husband, they will either not be asked for their psasport at all, or they will just be asked to send colour copies of all passport pages. (My British husband had this request.) It's impossible to say if you'll be asked or not, but there is a 99% chance you will not have to send in the physical passport.

Thanks for the quick reply and info! My brain clicked after I posted this question (information overload)! I've gone through this entire thread and it has been SO useful!

When you apply Outland the sponsor has to show proof that they will move back to Canada when PR is granted. Unfortunately we didn't put enough in. We plan on getting friends/family to write letters, we have email correspondence with a real estate agent, a new shiny canadian passport for my daughter and my wife's bank account details with CIBC...not sure why I didn't include all this in the first place!

Out of curiosity, did you get your bank statements notarised? Or is it okay to send online print outs? Haven't seen any info on this, but remember it was very strict for UK visa app.

We switched to paper statements a few months before we applied and then sent those.

You can also get the bank to print out statements for you.

I did a quick review of the spreadsheet. It seems like total of 97 cases were sent to London, UK, and out of those 52 are still waiting to hear back. 6 of those 52 applicants are in process.

Scroll down to under the details, there's a bunch of statistics boxes, including one split by processing office, including differentiating between "standard county" applications sent to London (i.e., the countries that would generally have been sent to London anyway) and Islamabad applications sent to London.

We just used online banking but there was an option to ask the bank to print out and send us 12 months of statements for free so we just did that so it looked more official.

Glad it's sorted - one year to the day to get your DM! So a bit above the average, but you got ther ein the end! Glad you are able to land by the 13th, certainly makes things easier. :)

Good luck landing - I linked to a BritishExpats wiki article maybe a page or so back that gives lots of good info for the landing process, have a read through that. :)

Congrats. Was there any other reason for an interview besides the note on your original police check?

Thank you both. I'm sending some printouts with an accompanying letter from the bank to confirm them and the balances, and also having my other original statements sent over!

They wanted to confirm the genuineness of the relationship, i am british she is Canadian, met and dated long distance before getting married. On the interview they focused on the relationship, we had loads of proof as we travelled between the UK and Canada every couple of months since 2013

i am glad its finally over now

Hi guys,

Hope you all are well...
I have a query. I have applied for Family class sponsorship under spousal category, Outland application. I am from non-visa exempt country.
So my question is If i can possibly delay the passport request for 1 or two month if I am not ready to travel to Canada that time. I mean , Given the fact, that there is so uncertainty about our application and God knows when I am going to get PP request and decision made on ECAS.

So I am just curious to find out if its possible for instance if I am traveling at the time of Passport (PP) request or about to travel in near future for business purposes and unable to submit my passport. Kindly help in this regard.

Thanks, I really like this forum,

Had you provided all the relationship proof with your original application or not? I thought it was rare that British citizens get called for an interview :)
