Hi everyone, i have a non immigration related question but just wanted to hear what you guys think. I'm attending a wedding on Saturday (it's my boyfriends colleague from work that is getting married) and boring as it is they have asked the guest not to buy gifts but to give them money instead. Now i was wondering what the customs are here in Canada, like what amount is polite enough to give? I don't want to be seen as rude, but at the same time I'm not swimming in money at the moment since they wont let me work here in Canada and I've been here unemployed for 6 months now living of my savings. So what do you guys reckon? (my boyfriend is not much help, it's his first wedding ever he's attending so...)

I got married in Canada last year and i got money values of $40-$300.

I would say $50-$100 would be enough and was considered an "average"

Hey everyone,

This is the reply I received from PAFSO regarding the strikes:

FS officers play a key role in our immigration and visa system, so it is likely that there may be significant delays to the processing of applications. For exact impacts, please contact the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

We regret the impact this may have on those affected. We have been in negotiation with the Government over wage inequalities for 18 months, and tried our best to avoid having an impact on service delivery. Unfortunately, we had to escalate to withdrawals of our services in order to force the government back to the negotiating table.

We hope this ends as soon as possible. In the meantime, you may wish to contact the Minister of Citizenship & Immigration, Jason Kenney, at jason.kenney @ parl.gc.ca or the President of the Treasury Board, Tony Clement, at tony.clement @ parl.gc.ca.

I don't know how much it helps, but there you go!

Cheers,

David

I wonder how they think that striking will have any impact whatsoever on the government? The only people it is hurting is those of us who have paid through the nose for this service and, if you think about it logically, why should the government really care about people who have, as yet, no right to live there? :o

My thoughts exactly!!!

We are in a S*** position. Our own governements can't help or care and the Canadian Governments don't care about people with no Canadian rights and most general public in Canada have a bad perception about immigrants so really they don't care either, all they hear about is how immigrants are taking there jobs etc etc

I hope they get their pay increase I do, if someone doing the same job as them is getting more than them, they should have equal pay but right now I have little care about here pay increase when I have a 7 year old in limbo

A question for the guys who have moved to Canada on a vistor visa while they await there decision.

Did you just change you address to your Canadian one with the CIC, was there any issue with this as you are then not technically outside canada although you applied outside.

Ty, Jack

Well, I can't imagine how difficult it must be with a young child to think of, but I hope you are sorted soon.

For our part, we have always quite fancied spending some time in Canada, but we decided to apply now as my father in law was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, all seems to be ok just now but you never know with such an insidious disease.

I wonder how they would react if we demanded a partial refund of the fee??? ;D

Im sorry to hear about your Father-in-law.... I wish CIC could also understand the normal peoples feelings!!!

Cool, What I am thinking of doing is changing the address to my Vancouver Home and then go traveling. Then Ill land back in Seattle, USA and get a friend to meet me with my COPR (If it comes of course) Rather than keep waiting in the UK.

Oh man.. Haven't been around for a while and just noticed the strike stuff.. What the...!! :-\

How can they do this?! I'm pretty sure this will cause a delay on the processing times.. damn!! Like we are not waiting long enough without this stupid stuff..

Dear All,

Does any one has an idea that what kind of strike is this and how may it delay process of our applications?

Any one contacted London VO in this regard and got any reply, please share!!
