Update from London:

They sent our PR to the OLD address and did not update the file!I guess they made a decision quicker than updating our address. They asked to let them know if we can retrieve from OLD address - we have told them No and asked them if it could be re-issued to NEW address since we have no forwarding service etc.

waiting for a response from them...


Hopefully it can be re-issued - any ever heard of pr being re-issued??

Hey guys!

Just a heads up for all those who will be settling in BC (west coast is the best coast lol). I was having a look about adding my partner to my BC MSP (Medical Services Plan) now that he has officially landed. Normally there is a waiting period, the balance of the month of arrival plus 2 months before a person qualifies for coverage. But in my wanderings of the MSP website, I found this

So according to this little publication, spouse PR applicants qualify after the balance of the month the PR APPLICATION IS RECEIVED BY CIC plus 2 months.

Really wish I had found this months ago. My partner arrived in Dec 2012 and could have had coverage straightaway, as his application was accepted by CIC in June 2012 and he qualified as of Sept 1st, 2012.

And I really wish that the MSP call centre had bothered to tell me this info when I asked about the process before we even arrived in Canada.

Does anybody know or experienced this before - London VO asked for finger prints, how long does it take them for process the file again after receiving the prints?

Hey, did you send your original prints to Ottawa? Apparently you have to wait til you get them back from Ottawa first with the official embossed stamp before you can mail them to London. Were waiting over 5 weeks now since we mailed to Ottawa but there is a faster way if you are in Canada that you can do electronically and it takes 7-10 days rather than the 18 weeks by ink! We did this on tues so will see if it comes within a week....its been dragging on for way too long now

Just by way of possibly clarifying the 'Medical results received' information on ECAS, I wanted to provide CIC with additional medical information about 4 weeks after file transfer and about 7 weeks after the initial application. They said the medical had been passed. We are still showing as 'Application received' so it looks like medicals are being passed/queried sometime before the file gets opened in London.

I'm also in BC (nice and sunny today! ), and I tried to be added to my partner MSP before I got my PR, but it didn't work. We sent the explanation, etc, but they still didn't do it... I landed 24th of November, and got my MSP coverage from 1st February (2 months + remaining of the landed month). I know that some applicants have had luck in the past, and have been covered under MSP before they landed, but it seems more the exception than the rule... always worth a try though!

I called MSP yesterday and spoke to a woman in enrollment who said that it is true. She said, like the publication, to send in the first and second ECAS pages showing when his PR app was accepted by CIC, as well as a little letter explaining what we were requesting, and they would consider that basically as his landing date and he would be covered straightaway.

My partner officially landed March 19th and we have sent in the forms to MSP, so we'll find out in a few weeks

A decision has been made on my husbands application. It said the office will contact us concerning this decision.
Does it say that for everyone? I am terrified it will say bad news!!

No need to panic! rather - congrats! it's the standard wording for CIC. If you haven't been asked for an interview, or additional document and it's the first time you hear from them - the most likely, you're done! if they had doubts about your relationship they would have asked for more documents, or an interview. So - now you just need to wait for the COPR to arrive at your address!

No - i didn't see it, but I had been told the same by another member here. So I tried - and it didn't work. I think that it's possible but very few MSP agents are actually aware of it, so most of the time they process the application and just put a date 2 months later - which they did for me. But I hope it works for you for sure, that would be great!

They asked him to redo the background info form (we screwed up on the date he finished high school) and via email they asked to explain an expunged trespassing charge in the US.
