Does anyone know long a wait it is after background checks are complete? Or are the background checks the last thing befre they issue COPR?

I have a question - can I work in Canada as a UK citizen before getting my PR? I have read on the CIC site that I can enter Canada as a 'Business Visitor' for 6 months. In my job working for a design company I work from home so practically I can pretty much work from anywhere that has an internet connection.

We're currently still at the 'Application Received' stage on our PR Application. We were thinking about booking our flights now, for later in the year, in order to take advantage of cheap flights. We're thinking of this because:

Our application could be considered fairly standard - I haven't moved around, and have no medical/criminal issues.
We see other people who are around 1-2 months ahead of us in dates beginning to get their applications changing to 'In Progress'.

Based on the progress we've seen on here, we're figuring we could be sorted by September/October, so would book flights for November to give a little cushion. If the PR hasn't come through by then, I'm wondering if I can just go anyway and enter initially as a 'Business Visitor' until my PR arrives.

Would such a move jeopardize the application, as it's a change in details?

Is it too risky? We're making an assumption of 6 months processing time.

For clarity, here's our current timeline:

I had my medical on 15th Jan 2013
Application sent to Mississauga on 7h March 2013
Confirmed received by Mississauga on 14th March 2013
Sponsorship approved by Mississauga on 16th April 2013
Additional Information Requested on 18th June (Employment/Personal History from age of 18)

Isn't that to attend business meetings in Canada which they would allow as it potentially generates business and investment in Canada?

Cic says - You can visit Canada on business to look for opportunities, to invest or to advance existing business relationships.

You are pretty much working from home and not the above.

Apologies for the intrusion, is your application 'non-standard' in some way? Generally it appears standard apps go through 'in Process' quickly. Do you have extended stays abroad or some such other circumstance in your case? Please feel free not to answer, just wondering if there's an explanation for your delay.

I lived in Florida for 2.5 years spent 3 months in California and also spent a year in Australia - I sent off State, FBI, territory and country background checks like they asked for - but if this makes me "non-standard" then so be it :/

Otherwise, I have no prior convictions, first (and hopefully only) marriage, no children, no illness and no bankruptcy. Just the way it is I guess...

I wouldn't say the "In Process" time is an indication of whether an app is "standard" or not, it's more an indication of whether the VO bothers to update ECAS or not :). ECAS isn't an automatic system, the VO has to actually go in and update it. There are some that update ECAS all the time, so a file goes "In Process" the day they open it. Other VOs don't even seem to look at ECAS at all; those files can show "Application Received" until they turn to "Decision Made". My partner's app never went "In Process", though his GCMS notes show they started processing the app months before DM.

They just sent me this..

Dear Applicant,

In order to continue processing your application, we require the additional documents listed below. Please send clear legible photocopies rather than the original documents unless otherwise specified. If the documents are not written in either English or French, please enclose a certified translation with a photocopy of the original document.

They want a new police check, i will get one tomorrow on next day delivery. Am i getting closer or this is going to get a long time?

Your assumption of 6 months processing may be overly optimistic. If I was you, I'd allow at least 10 months and hope that it's less.

I saw this today didn't know weather to laugh or cry. It's a letter sent from CIC to someone asking for extra documents, the typos are outrageous.
