Bargeld was saying that the expiration to land is usually a year from when you got your medical done...so Feb 2013.
Thanks, I assumed as much, I just didn't want to believe it. I should of just submitted my medicals late. I was hoping to have my wife land in May/June next year as we wanted to go travelling first.

On the side note, if she lands in Canada as a PR, how hard will it to go back to US? We will most likely leave her car in the US until June to import it then maybe. Probably move back and forth between the US 3-4 more times to wrap everything up as well.

Will the the border officer ask questions about the Canadian immigrant visa in her US passport? I read online that even once she gets both citizenships, she should enter the US only with her US passport, and use her Canadian one when entering Canada.

The fastest way is to go to a Service Canada office with your application and documents - details @ http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/sin/index.shtml. They will give you your SIN number on the spot.
Do I need Canadian address proof for applying SIN number?

thanks

Yes, and I believe Canadian photo ID as well. (passport, health card, licence). That's for Ontario though.

This is basically the rule:

in order to maintain your permanent resident status in Canada, you must reside in Canada for 720 days in every 5 year period. These 720 days do not have to be immediately following landing.

i.e. you can leave once you have the PR visa, you just have to spend a majority of your time there overall.

No need address proof. Have you gone to the website as provided by OhCanadiana? Please read it. On the page, there is a link 'how do I apply...'. Click it and it will take you to another page, on which you can click to see what document is required for permanent residents.

I landed! It went pretty smoothly, the interview/paperwork at the border took maybe 20 minutes.

The email for importing a car says that cars can only be exported at the Lewiston Bridge crossing. It is important to note that there are no signs that say Lewiston Bridge. There are signs fro Whirlpool Bridge, and Rainbow Falls Bridge, but the signs that point to the Lewiston Bridge only say things like "Canada next exit". We drove around for maybe an hour looking for it. But really, considering that that's the biggest hitch we had for the whole trip up from Georgia, we did pretty good.

I'm going to be running around this weekend trying to get bank/phone/etc set up. Does anyone have recommendations for phone plans? I'll still need to call the States pretty frequently, and a few relatives in other places occasionally.

We just got our CoPR (took under 3 weeks). And it expires December 17 2012 with is 2 years after the exam date of December 18, 2010. We didn't need another medical as they dragged us through the system thank God.

Now to start the move...

Good to hear your landing is done!

For phone plans, you can take a look at the 'Settlement' topics (www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/settlement-issues-b14.0/) and search for 'phone'. There are a few threads talking about cell/home/internet options. Good luck!

My husband is a Canadian citizen and I am an American. My husband and I were dating long distance for a little over a year before we got married. We immediately began the application process afterwards. We decided the best route was to hire a lawyer to make sure everything got done right and nothing fell through the cracks (for reference for anybody our lawyer cost around $4,000 for the whole process but it also includes the filing and landing fees for PR). We are a few months shy of our one year anniversary and have finally acquired all of the paperwork requested. FBI check, medical exam, Canadian police report (because I had been in Canada for a collective 6+ months) and my husband's Schedule C forms. We needed 2010's but then when the calendar flipped over to 2012 we then had to wait for his 2011 taxes to be filed before we could acquire the current Schedule C. The acquiring process would have been shorter but it does take a while to get everything since government agencies take a while. It took the FBI almost 2 months to send me back my report. The RCMP was much quicker with theirs with a matter of weeks. Anyways, we are going to make an appointment with our lawyer soon and hand over the last of everything so we can FINALLY send it off and hope for the best :)

PS: We were told that pictures of us with each others friends and family help convince them of our relationship so we made sure to take lots of pics during holidays. He spent one Christmas and Thanksgiving with mine and I spent a Christmas with his in Canada. Also included is an 11+ page long call log from Skype to prove we had been in constant contact with each other despite the distance. Just an FYI for anybody maybe looking for things to include with their app :)
