Hi Everyone. I have applied for an outland spousal sponsorship and is wondering if anyone can shed some light on processing times? I sent in my applicaation to Missisauga which was received on July 3 2012. It was aproved by that office on Sept 18 2012 and was advised that it was being sent to Ottawa office (although I requested it to be sent to Buffalo.) I havent heard anything from anyone since sept 18 and wondering what i can expect to happen now? Thanks in advance for any help!!

The Buffalo office is now closed, so US outland spousal/common-law applications are being processed by Ottawa. We applied right after you - July 9th, and we haven't heard anything either. Sponsorship approval was September 20th, and I don't expect we'll hear anything for awhile yet. There are no official processing times for Ottawa because it hasn't been processing applications for very long, but I am anticipating it could take up to a year (but hope we get through much sooner!).

Thanks Tavora for your help. Do you know the situations on medicals/police checks. I know they are only valid for 3 months so by the time the office gets round to processing them they will be expired no?

They are valid for a year. Police clearance certificates must be received within three months of their issue date, but they are valid for a full year once CIC has them.

Does this mean I will have to get another FBI clearance before they finish processing our case? Because we are waaaaay over a year. If that is the case, I am just going to start ordering one every two months from now until we get ppr, whenever that is.

It's up to the VO. If you're living in Canada, they likely won't require you to get another one because your US criminal status is unlikely to have changed. Further, when you sign your COPR, one of the things you sign is that you have not been charged or convicted - so if you lied and they find out, you are guilty of misrepresentation and your PR status can be revoked on that grounds.

Why every two months? If you ordered one today and sent it in two months from now when you get it, you'd be covered for another year.

I figured I would wait until they ask me for it. I really don't have a lot of confidence that they would be able to find out whose file it belongs to otherwse. And I won't be in Canada anymore, our daughter and myself will be going back to the US on Saturday, can't afford to stay here anymore with me not working.

So medicals and police checks are valid for a year as long as CIC receive them within 3 months of being issues...CIC being the office in Missisauga?? Sorry for what may seem like a dumb question!

Medicals are sent to CIC by the doctor, so the 90 days shouldn't be an issue as far as I know.

The PCCs may be sent to CPC-M or if your application has been transferred to a VO abroad, to that VO. In general, it's best to include them with your PR application when you submit it. Otherwise, wait until you get the address of the VO abroad and send it there along with something to indicate your file number.

so the next step is either them approving it or they ask you in for an interview? I understand they ask you for an interview if they are unsure about your relationship is that right? or is there an option that they may just reject it without even asking for an interview?

I got interview in April 2013
any advices are welcome
and my medicals expire in march. do you think they would extend the medicals ? or i had to redo it?

Wow. Interviews for US applicants are very unusual. Any reason they might doubt your relationship? Any other issues in your application (e.g., criminality, previous refusals, removals, history as a war criminal, etc.)

It's up to the VO. They may ask you to re-do them, or they may ask the IMS to extend them. Since nothing much can change that would cause you to be refused in them, I'd bet on them extending them - but it's VO's discretion.
