My husband recently drove my car across the boarder (to find a lawyer for his custody case) and he was stuck at the boarder for 5 hours. Apparently, you aren't suppose to drive a Canadian registered car across the boarder, without the owner...or presummably a Canadian.
When he was waiting at the boarder, he inquired if he couldn't drive across, could he go to the Canadian side, park the car, and get a rental and drive across. Again the answer was NO.
Eventually after much verifying, and checking he was permitted to drive my car across the boarder but there was several hours delay time.
If you husband can't cross, perhaps he knows another fellow Canadian that can drive across the boarder with you. Always better to err on the side of caution.
