The Sponsor's information is entered onto ecas. Having to send in additional information is different for everyone, it's case by case. It's also not entirely random. If you forgot something, they'll ask for it. If they feel you didn't prove your relationship was genuine enough or they're skeptical about something or maybe something just needs clarification, they'll ask you. So there's a 50% chance, but if you have a straightforward case and you sent everything in you were supposed to on time, then your chances of having to send additional evidence just lessened dramatically.
