wow, CansponsoringAussie, i think you are our mst present case with perfect timeline... i'm 15 days behind you to submit the documents and almost 1 month behind for AOR Sydney, so hopefully would hear from them in around 1 month's time. I know they would need to contact me to request for my Singapore police check (Singapore doesn't do it without this letter), so my case will be delayed a little, but hopefully it would be ready by year end. Please continue to keep us updated. thanks!

any good news here? Rachiy, i saw CIC updated their stage 1 processing time - they are currently looking at July 4th applications... just one day before yours.... best of luck, you should hear from them soon!

It makes me feel sick. haha I am such a baby.
Thanks for thinking of me minie!!

Wow, not even 4 months total! You have great timing!

rachiy, you can add me to the spreadsheet, although I don't have much to report as yet. Thanks for compiling it - it's really helpful to see other people's timelines.

CansponsoringAussie, that is a great timeline!

Hi everyone!

I have a couple of quick questions, I hope everyone can bear with me, I've tried to find the exact answers elsewhere but haven't had much luck!

My husband (Australian) and I have been married for 3 years. We've been in Canada for a few months now, and plan on staying here permanently, which obviously involves applying for permanent residency!

My questions are:

1) Even though we will both be inside Canada when applying (my husband is on the standard 6 month visitors visa) can we do an outland application because it's faster?

2) If we do an outland application and then apply to extend his visitors visa while it's processed, will they reject his extension on the basis that it's an outland app?

3) Will they find it weird that my husband's address will still be in Canada and that his medical check will come from Canada?

Thanks so much for the help!

Hey chipits.

In short: Yes, No, Yes/No.

1) A lot of people choose to do it this way as the processing times are much quicker. In fact, I haven't heard from anyone going through Sydney taking the inland route as by the time stage 1 inland is completed, you could have already received PR outland.

2) Again, a lot of people choose to do this and have had a lot of success. I haven't heard of any rejections for people from visa-exempt countries (as long as you meet the requirements and have no red flags against your case). There are lots of threads about this on this forum, and there are many who have applied for multiple extensions and received them no problems, so you will be able to get more details closer to the time.

3) This one I am a little unsure about, so maybe others will jump in and clarify for you. As far as I know, he technically he does not live in Canada (yet), he is only visiting so I think you need to include his "home" address in Australia. I think there is a section where you can list another address for mailing etc, so that you get the documents sent to you in Canada though. I don't think they will really care where the medical comes from, as long as it is from a DMP which they list.

chipits:

re: #3: your husband being in Canada isn't a problem because if he is living and working in Canada on a work permit or working holiday visa then he is considered to be a resident here. My boyfriend who is also Australian is here on a working holiday visa that he is one year into. we are hoping the PR comes before the visa runs out, but if not we have heard it is very easy to get a new one.

we applied outland through Sydney and put all his info such as addresses and work as Toronto because it's where we live. he also had his medical done in Toronto....

hope that helps a little bit and good luck!

Thanks for the help!! Unfortunately he's not on a working holiday visa, just a normal visiting visa (too old for WH) so I guess using the mailing address it is then!

Thanks so much everyone :)

just letting everyone know I just got an email saying I have been approved to sponsor my common law partner and the file has been sent onto sydney! yay!
