I have just received the SA email, but at the same time I have also received a Document request form.

I included a NZ police check with my application but apparently all I needed to do was fill in this form- (consent to disclosure of information nz, as CIC will obtain the Police clearance themselves. )

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/pdf/instructions_police_NZ-en.pdf

Also it looks like they do the same for Australian police checks, yet I have read so many posts about people getting it themselves.

So anyway I guess I will fill the form in and send it. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have read posts about when their status gets up to CIC obtaining the police information, that it takes months for this to process and then go on to the next stage.

Also my passport got ruined (puppy incident) so I now have a new one. How should I go about updating it with CIC?

If a police record wasn't submitted upfront, then it's typical for the SA letter to request it as a next step. In regards to updating your passport, if you are the applicant, simply send a scanned copy to your visa office per the guidelines specified in the SA letter or send it along with your Police record noting the change. If you are the sponsor, then you don't need to do anything.

Thanks for the reply. I did submit my police check with my original application though.

Also they are not actually asking for a police check, but for me to fill in a form for consent of disclosure so CIC can obtain a police check themselves. I guess I should just fill the form in, send it, and let them obtain it. I'm just worried about how long that process will take them, as I think my application is now going to be put on hold until they finally receive it, which could take months. I don't see why they can't just use the one I gave them.

I will send a scanned copy of my passport with this new consent of disclosure form. Has anybody had to obtain a New Zealand police certificate or this disclosure form?

Do you think I can fax these to the visa office, or it has to be by post?

it may just be your visa office needs you to give consent before CIC conducts the security/background checks that are a part of the normal processing of an application because you are not from the country the visa office is located in. CIC is going to conduct further checks than just the what the police record provides, and it's generally the last piece in the process before approval. it's really not recommended to assume anything about anything when it comes to the processing of your application. how do you know your application will be slowed down? you don't. generally, if the information that was requested in the SA is received ASAP and before the application is picked up for processing, there is little delay in the process. again, you can't assume you know what's going to happen with your application. the processing experience, especially for your visa office, is all over the map.

the SA letter should have specified what is required and how to send it. GEnerally, post, fax or email are the accepted ways, unless of course the visa office specified they needed an ORIGINAL copy of the signed consent form. sometimes, it's worth it to send it by mail AND by email or fax.

NZ has multiple levels of police certificate you can obtain, CIC must only accept one version, that is why they have explained on their website to include the concent to obtain form not the actual police certificate. I don't totally understand what you are questioning here. If CIC have asked for it, that is what they want. Disagreeing with that isn't going to help speed things up.

To check on your status online using your UCI number, do you use the sponsor or applicants name/birthdate/place of birth?

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to log in

yes, the UCI number received in the SA is the SPONSOR'S, so you need to use the sponsor's personal info.

if you just received SA, you may not be able to sign in yet. generally, it can take anywhere from 2 days to many months to be able to sign in. some people report not being able to sign in at all. It's not an indication of what's going on with your application.

Hi Guys,

I am currently in the process of completing an application for Spousal Sponsorship (I am the citizen and I am sponsoring my common-law partner).

Consequently I need to get a couple of documents notarised, including the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union.

I was wondering if we have to refer to a specific notary or we can just pick the one suits as best (provided that they have all the necessary accreditation etc.)?

Please note that we live in Melbourne.

Cheers,

I never got any thing notarized either. I never filled in the Statutory Declaration of Common Law Union, it is only for when you have a co-sponsor and are sponsoring parents etc.

And I must have done something right because I just logged into ECAS to see Decision made.

I got my COPR in the mail yesterday!

I'm in Canada on a visitor visa at the moment, and I'm going to the US to see family for Thanksgiving in a week so I will just bring all my paperwork and do the landing when I fly back.

I'm pumped! Crossing my fingers for the rest of you all!

Decision made today on ECAS.
8)

How long does it usually take to go from this point to the PPR?

A bit confused though. How can a decision be made if they have not received a copy/scan of the sponsored person's passport?
