Lets see what I get first..my passport or and email from London lol...they will have had it 3 weeks on Wednesday! I am hoping to get it about 29th Sept..next week!

Thanks, Last time I emailed them it took exactly 1 week for them to reply. I hope I will get a reply soon as it concerns the whereabouts of my passport..and is a huge concern..I am not too bothered about how long it takes to get back to me as I am authorized to live here until Aug 2011..its more wanting confirmation that they have my passport!! Getting it lost in the mail is a major identity risk!! :( But I am sure they have it would sleep better if I knew 100%..How long did it take Sydney to reply to you Lyn?

Yes, it is important to know where it is, even though you can't have it ::)

I'm almost embarrassed to say that Sydney replied to my email immediately - I sent it during their weekend and they replied before office hours started on monday. They've been just brilliant throughout.

I hope I get a prompt response! I know that if I lose it I am supposed to report it to the British Embassy if I am in any country other than the UK and if I lose it whilst in England I am supposed to go to the Police station and report it lost! I almost had to do that here a few years ago..I lost my old one in Canada and luckily found it after a few hours of frantic searching..it was outside on the driveway!! I now carry a photocopy as Id (only Id I have) lol :-[

Omigosh, that must have been worrying! I have everything like passports scanned in now (and backed up) in case of loss. At least it's something.

Apparently it's possible to get emergency travel documents so that you can travel without your passport if there's an urgent need, which I find very comforting. I think I'm going to give customs one more week and then start chasing after my passport and being such a pain that they let me have it back just to be rid of me!

Our race is still on ;D

so today we got a letter from Buffalo requesting an RCMP fingerprint check.. maybe because he went to school in Montreal for a semester? Hopefully it doesn't slow down our process too much as we will have to wait until his next visit to get them done :(

.... are they asking for RCMP check if someone worked/lived/studied in canada?
my wife had work visa and student visa and living with me right now... it's no good if there is any delay, we found out today she's pregnant, she will need health care in few months

Yes you can get a one time exit travel document from your embassy that will allow you to travel back to your country of Citizenship..however it does not allow you to return to Canada..and is only in an emergency..I don't think it would be feasible for anyone to ask for your passport for any period of time without this document existing!! It is nice to know your not Stuck in Canada while your passport is in Customs lol..How come its stuck in customs?? No E-mail from London as yet..but its only 1pm there..office hours are still open!

You bet..I just got an email from London...My passport left CHC-London on 14th September via recorded delivery with a signature required..they didnt give me a tracking number though...

Do I need to show ID?? I recall having to do so when my daughters passport arrived from the British Embassy. The funny thing is the only form of picture ID I have is in the envelope LOL...Hope they accept a photocopy! :P

ooh! Fantastic news!

You don't normally need id for signed-for mail when they catch you at home, but if you pick it up at the depot then yes you need photo id. Doesn't have to be canadian photo id though.

The lady I spoke to said they always check passports because there is so much fraud. Sad eh? It has to be checked by customs, RCMP and immigration. Yay!
However I doubt that's really *all* passports, probably more luck of the draw as to whether the package is identified as containing a passport.

:P :P :P Yes yes yesssss! Got my passport back with visa and everything! :P :P :P :

So relieved. I'm going to arrange to land later; right now it's time to celebrate. Hoping for good news for everyone today - especially Britincanada, would love it if our race was a tie!

Massive hugs and cake all round!

That is such great news Lyn!!! Congratulations! I hope you get a big 'Welcome to Canada' at the border.

Brittincanada, you're next. I'm hoping for a speedy return of your passport too. Best of luck.

Grats Lynw! Now you can kick back and enjoy life again!
