The letter saying that they've received his file and giving him his file number is the AOR. That means the visa office has started processing. Congrats :)

You should already be able to log into e-CAS using the sponsor's information. Logging in with the applicant's information should come soon as well. But really it's no big deal, it will just say "We have started processing your application on XX, 2010"

Update from me..sorry to cross post. I have received an e-mail from CIC to inform me that my file has been transfered to Detroit. I hope this is not going to take longer or even lose my FBI certificate that was sent to Buffalo 2 weeks ago. (fingers crossed!)

Here is the e-mail in case some of you want to see it...

Congratulations! Makes me wonder what happened to our file. No updates but I know they got my e-mail about changing address to a Canadian Address. I think you are almost there! Wish you a speedy processing :)

Congrats to everyone!

I kind of hope that our file is transferred to Detroit now! Detroit is the border my husband crosses at most frequently, anyway.

i wonder if those processors look into these forums sometimes hahaha. really hoping we all get our passports with the visa's back asap :)
