Regardless of what you hear and what you read, let me be very frank and tell you what can happen 90% of the time here.
The million $ question you will be asked in each and every interview is - Do you have Canadian Experience?
I am a hiring Manager and it is in most companies wishlist that you either have education in canada or canadian exp to get a job easily in the business field here in Toronto.
Yes, there are exceptions like he has an MBA and worked for IBM India for 5 years -
Indian experience in the business field will not be easily considered here...this is just an FYI for you to be prepared.

Have your options open and look at some HR cources in Humber or George Brown as well, it will really open up your world when it comes to your career.
My wife has a Masters degree and 7+ years of experience in India but she will be facing the same problems once recruiters start calling her.

If you are young, best thing to do is to go to College and get a Post graduate certificate in the field you would like to work.
and remember you do not pay international fee anymore (10-15k) you pay Canadian resident fee ( which could be around 3-5k)

All the best.

I think I should send you my resume!! Are you settled in GTA?

Just sharing info about free french/english LINC program for new landed immigrants.
My wife is starting her french classes tomorrow, she just wants to learn french,,no idea why.
As a new immigrant you can learn english/French free of cost if you think you need to polish your english skills.. this is a a free of charge program in partnership with CIC.

How to do it - Go to your local YMCA language assessment center and they will evaluate your language skills and recommend you to which stream you might need.

So now shes gonna start *censored word*ing at me in French and i will have no clue LOL

This is awesome... I have learnt French in India from Alliance Francaise in Delhi.. Wouldn't mind joining a refresher course if I can!

@ Sam & nddec,

Congrats to both of you.... finally. See we told you ;) Patience is key....

@ FPrince,

The LINC classes are great. My husband started the English one just for conversational reasons to get some of the more informal lingo down. LOL! Now he wants to start the French classes because in Ottawa, the key to most jobs regardless of experience is one's ability to speak French. She will enjoy them, they are also a great way to meet new people.

Thank u!!!!!

Hi!
Thank you so much!
Yes they did goof up on my medicals.. i came to know from my MP. This is what happened..
My husband called the MP's Ottawa office, and the person who answered was very helpful. He took all the details of our case, then called us back the next day saying that the immigration ppl havent recd my medicals, and also said they had apparently sent me some packet to do medicals in feb. I then told him that my medicals had been done in toronto itself(since i was there on a visit visa at the time) in november. We faxed the MP the section A form that was attached in th application, thats the proof that the medicals had been done. So he took tht info and called CIC Ottawa again. Then he told us to give him some proof that the medicals have been sent to CIC, so we got in touch with our DMP, he then faxed us a proof that said medicals have been sent on Dec 7th 2010. We sent tht to the MP. The medicals from toronto first go to Ottawa then are sent to New Delhi from there. So finally the MP found out that my medicals are lying in Delhi, but they never connected those medicals to my file, as they thought, me being a delhi resident, the meds would come from a Delhi doctor!! Finally, the MP called my husband and told him that the medicals had finally been attached to the file.

So since u also did ur medicals from Canada, I would suggest to follow up with these ppl to make sure they attach ur medicals to ur file!

congrats to those who will be with the loved ones soon enough...Its such a good feeling!!!
Good Luck to the rest of us to get there soon too!!! :D

Hi nylalisa,

The mention of Ottawa caught my interest. If it isnt too much of a trouble could you please give me more information on how learning french would be helpful as I should be going to Ottawa inshallah. I have already learnt french for 4 yrs back in 2002, and doing a refresher course at Alliance Francaise right now. Also, can I join an advanced course on the lines you have mentioned above once I reach Canada. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Shamsia :)
