Except Passport is asked as soon as your app is received (before any processing)
just a file number is created
It is a sort of standard letter also serves as a AOR.
I see. Thanks.

One more question - After they approve of the visa, will they send a PR card to my address or will I get entry into Canada on the basis of the stamp on my passport and get the PR card later?

You will get the PR card only after landing in Canada. However, along with the visa on your passport, you will get this sheet of paper with all your details, your picture, and a carbon copy at the back. This you need to sign in the presence of an officer after you land. It is called the COPR - Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

whizbee - time line updated to show 18-Jan-2012

mountain_pirate, SBDelhi, sumant - names added.

All the best to everyone.

I have done my part, let ND do theirs :)

I have just given a different color to denote "In Process" applicants.

Ok, My boss has answered this question!

One more update on my wife's ECAS today..

Address came back.... But this time it shows my Canadian address.. :) :) :) that too only city, province and country. No street address :D

so they automatically denoted a Canadian address as her new Home now.. ;D ;D

hey there - step 1 is the easy part. u should brace yourself for patience !

Agreed! But it will be easier to be patient once I get the first communication from CIC. I don't expect an AOR so the approval letter will be the first sign that CIC has started looking at our app. I just want that first foot in the door, then I'll be patient again :)
