You can check the processing time on cic website. As per Jan 18th update for sponsorship processing its taking 68 days (working on applications received on November 9, 2011)

As for the acknowledgment if they received your application package they won't send you anything, you can use your courier tracking number to verify when it made it to Mississauga office

Alternatively, if you paid the fees online you can use your receipt number to check application status online in couple Weeks..

Thanks you Singhson.

Not necessarily true, we got meds received in late November, and then got an interview call on Jan 8th (for Feb 22), so it doesn't mean you're certainly "interview waived". Interviews can be called at several stages of the processing, so while I think it's true many are called at the beginning, not all are.

All the best for your interview !!!!

That is true. That's why I don't know if I should go to India, because what if I do send my passport with someone else, and then they ask me to come in for the interview, but I wouldn't be able to fly out because they will have my passport! :o :o :o Even though I know it's very slim chance for me to get called in for one, you just never know. There still is a chance there for all of us.

Anyway- all these letters that ND send out, for PPR or Anything like "Send more documents" do you guys know if they only mail these within the address of India? or can they mail stuff like that over seas too? I put down my address here in the states, since I don't have an address in India.

I dont think sending passport with someone else is an option for you and its not advisable either.
1. Legally, you should not send your passport with someone-else out of border.
2. If you send your passport and then you are required to go to India (may be for interview) or if you are required to travel anywhere (emergency), then you are stuck.

Never send your passport with someone. Bite the bullet and go get it done. Staying in India is not at all a problem. India is very affordable you see :P

Not sure about the document requests, but they are pretty sure that they can't mail the passport back to any address outside India.
So the address of communication should be an Indian address for sure, atleast for passport. Which means, you might have to change the mailing address from US to India once you see the address appear on the E-CAS or when you get your PPR.

Hey Karish!! I was just thinking about you guys yesterday. Did your husband get any passport request yet?? I'm also in USA with a work permit. Can your husband at least travel though? or is it just a work permit?

Vengat, thanks! I have been leaning more towards the idea of going to India myself, but it's going to be a very hard choice. I can't travel anywhere except for the US at the moment, so making emergency trips is not gonna happen. Although, you can send a passport with a trusted person, as long as that person also has an authorized letter from the real passport owner, that they are allowing this person to carry their passport. But yes you are right, mailing a passport to India and from India is illegal.

I know, I heard about your new baby daughter. Congrats once again. I know it's so crap, isn't it??? It's taking so much away, memories we could be creating right now with our spouse. But lets be positive, at least your husband is not in India, it would have been so much harder for you to visit him with the baby (think about the long travel). He is just a two hour flight from you :)

Every time my husband and I get frustrated, I just remind myself and tell him, look at the bright side... at least we are in the same time zone! and at least we are just a two hour flight from each other. If I do decide to go to India, I probably won't see him until I get my visa.
