Vinjovi, it does get confusing. We followed the instructions on the website and waited months for the police inspector to complete the investigation. When we followed up with him, he then advised that we would have to get the certificate from the passport office as that is what the Canadian Visa office required. Otherwise we wouldn't have known.

Good luck with what you have provided. Anything that can cause a delay is devastating :(

ok guys even I am getting confused here it clearly states here

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/india.asp

How to obtain a police certificate
India

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Yes.

How and where do I obtain one?

Local Requests

For districts other than the Punjab:
Applicants should contact the local Senior Superintendent of Police/ Superintendent of Police/ Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Additional Commissioner of Police,or the Station House Officer (Police clearance certificate issued by the Regional Passport Office are also acceptable.

For residents of the Punjab:
Only the Senior Superintendent of Police or the Regional Passport Office may sign a Police Clearance Certificate.

Non-Resident Requests
Applicants should contact the Indian embassy or consulate.

So any of them issuing a pcc is acceptable , it does not have to be a pcc issued just by the regional passport office. Another thing if you have sent a pcc with your application already I do not think you need to send in another with the pp request.

My Indian Police Clearance Certificate is issued by the DCP's Office. It states "As per report of SHO Police Station ......". Under a footnote, it also states that this certificate is required for Canadian Immigration Application purpose. There has been no problem whatsoever. It is not mandatory to get a clearance certificate only from the passport office. I agree with kal1313's post, pasted from CIC's website. Good Luck.

I agree. Getting a PCC from the passport office is NOT a requirement, as per the instructions listed by CIC. My husband got his PCC from the local police office and his case was processed quickly.

Guys my ecas status changed to Decision made today. I am just praying that it turns to be a good news...Is decision made always a good news?
Will like to share few of my experiences.

I filed application on June 14th and My husband visited me in India from July 1 to July 11. I don't see an issue with your spouse visiting you during your file process. Also how they would have known for how much time he was here or was he here at all or was here was all 3 months..I am not sure if it matters.

My visitor visa to Canada was rejected

Also, i didn't send them email for all this time and was just waiting for response.

My time lines are below:

App submitted: June 14
Sponsorship approved: 15th July
ND started file processing: Aug4th
PPR&FBI request: 17th Aug(Reached ND on 18th Aug)
eCAS status changed to decision made: 14th Sep
Waiting for the decision and hope it turns out to be good :)

Minku I feel the only difference in our and your app would have been your Canada stay and which may be taking long for some checks and all. Otherwise i don't see a reason why it is taking long...For Xyrus might be the FBI certificate was sent later after being asked for it so might be taking few more days..Good luck to you guys
Vigi,

Its nice to hear that there is no problem in husband visiting us, when the sponsorship approval is in progress. My husband also submitted my PR appln on Sep 1st, and he has come here to India on a 2week vacation. We are going to have his phone ON, in case if CIC calls us for any further documents. Hopefully, we shud ve submitted all necessary docs, and there shudnt be any need for CIC to call him!

Also does any1 have any idea how long PCC issued by Indian passport is valid? And if the ND office feels that they need a new PCC, will they be asking us to send , before the passport request? I hope its not needed anyways for the sponsorship approval.

We have sent the PCC (got from Indian passport office) which is printed on April 24th. So want to know how long it is valid. Anyhow I have a new PCC with me, printed on Aug 28th. If New Delhi office feels that the PCC is not valid, then I would ve to send the new one.

VIGI! Thats awesome! Have a wonderful life ahead and do drop in here sometimes. Your FBI timeline was very helpful to me too. Congrats again.

sanyrog - PCC's are valid for 3 months. So the previous one you submitted (Dated: Apr 24th) had already expired when you turned in your app. on Sept. 1st. You would need to submit a fresh PCC when you submit your PP now. PP requests usually arrive after 3-4 weeks of sponsor approval, which should happen in 3 weeks from now. Current wait is 42 days:

Good Luck!

Xyrus,

Thanks. My new PCC is valid only till Nov 27th, if its valid only for 3months. Hopefully they shud ask for my PP before that! Otherwise, need to take another one :( Its irritating!

Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

If the original certificate is neither in English nor in French, submit both the certificate and the original copy of a translation prepared by an accredited translator with your application.

before you submit your application

So I dont think it should matter after , if they have received the pcc with in those 3 months
