Seeing as my husband just received the request to do the medical a week ago, I think I know what I'm talking about. That you can submit at any time or without the request is totally news to me.
We are sharing what each of us has experienced through the process. As individuals, we have made choices when submitting our application. We all know what we are talking about because we speak from experience.

I would love to know how you did this. The Medical Request section A cant be filled out without a file number and UCI...
I got the information on how to do this from the forms and info on the CIC website. I followed the checklists as closely as possible.

Document Checklist [IMM 5491] (PDF, 159 KB) Item # 26 and 27

In the Country Specific Instructions Document Checklist - Immigrant it says:

Assemble all your documents as listed. Check () each applicable item on the list and attach the list to your documents (a paper clip will do). Send originals of the forms (items 1 to 5 below) and police certificates. Send photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals

POLICE CERTIFICATES AND CLEARANCES
Police certificates or clearances from each country in which you and every one in your family aged 18 years or over have lived six months or more since reaching 18 years of age. You must attach the original police document(s). Please consult our website at: www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp for specific and up-to-date information on how to obtain police certificates from any country.

Have a nice day :)

Perhaps my experience is different because we are in reprocessing after an appeal hearing. However, now I must ask: why wasn't the need for a new medical assessed when we were asked to redo all criminal background checks and resubmit the updated, most recent application form and clarify a couple of things fro the initial application?

We have always had a different experience than everyone on this forum. This kind of treatment is typical of what we've gone through with Accra. I believe this is very badly mishandling of our file. I can't believe this ridiculousness. What this says to me is now we are wasting more precious time, unnecessarily.

This is the icing in the cake for me. I will not be silent about this ridiculous office. I have not been and I'm going further.

They will request for the PR fees at some point. The good news is that the application process has been simplified as compared to what it used to be. It should not cause any significant delay as it has not in recent times.Based on the old application process, not paying for the PR can add up to 90days to the whole thing.

Okay update.
My husband went for his medical yesterday. In total it took 6 hours (4 hours waiting and 2 hours for the actual medical). He didn't receive a copy of any of the forms (which greatly concerned me) but does have a receipt of payment (which my lawyer says may be enough if I explain the situation in my cover letter). My husband just had to bring Appendix C with him and the Doctor had the rest (there are only 2 locations in Accra that you can go to that has been approved. This info does show on the website). After 2 weeks his medical will be sent to the Canadian Visa office at which time I pray will connect up with the application I'll have sent in by then.

Also my husband stopped by the Police Headquarters and got his police check, which he was told would take 2 weeks but he is a smart man and asked if there was any way to speed up the process (which of course there always is). So he actually has just picked his up today.

I figure since he was able to get these things done best to get them done now. If they ask for it again, well fine but at least I feel more at ease with doing it up front.

Anyhow, just wanted to share what we ended up doing in case anyone new who hasn't sent their application in reads this.

Sorry was going to attach Appendix C but can't figure out how as it keeps denying me.

Glad to read everything went on well.

My husband also got this police check the same day...after asking to make it go faster :)

As for the medical exam, we got a receipt and I remember his picture being on it. Just to let you know that he did his medical in late July 2012 and Accra matched it to his application when they received it at the beginning of November 2012. So the system works!
