Hi there!

I am sponsoring my dependent child, who is living in Canada. The application was submitted in March/2018 and we got the Sponsorship approval last June. Since this time, I did not hear anything from the Immigration office (mississauga office) until yesterday with a letter saying "Application for Permanent Residence for your relative(s) has been forwarded to the visa office" in our home-country.

I would like to know whether this is fine or not? We are not sure about this!!!
We haven't got medical request, yet!

Why does the VO in mississagua transfer the file since the application was submitted in Canada and processed here after almost 10 months.

I really appreciate it whether you may give a clue.

Thanks!

Hi everyone...my wife and myself is on pr status and we are planing for the delivery outside Canada ... how long does it take to sponsor the child ? Will you be able to apply for child benefits if we are sponsoring the child ?

And give birth to the child in Canada. Sponsorship can take a while and can be frustrating. I am currently sponsoring My son and it's taking firfore to even get the elegibility mail.

You apply for the visitor's visa before applying for the sponsorship, you have higher chances of getting it. Otherwise you may likely not get it at all

Ideal option is to have the child delivered in Canada.
If you can not do that, then you can do that outside Canada and bring your child on a visitor visa. As "Surexistence" mentioned you apply for visitor visa bring you child to Canada and then apply for sponsorship.

Yes, you can apply for child benefits if the child is living with you in Canada. It does not matter if the child is PR or not.

You will have difficulty in getting a health card for the child as the immigration officer does not give any document to show residency status in Canada and you will need one to apply for health card.

However, the child will not have any problem in getting vaccination. They do not ask for health card for vaccination.

Hope that answers your questions.

Children born abroad don't always get approved for a TRV or TRP. Sponsorship will take 6-9 approximately. In most provinces children on TRVs do not qualify for healthcare. You will have to pay for routine care and buy health insurance to cover any emergencies. Vaccinations are usually available through public health but you will have to check when they may be available. A nurse will likely give the shots. Vaccinations are given to protect Canadians from unvaccinated individuals.

Has you wife received PR yet? Where are you living? There could be a 3 month waiting time until she qualifies for health coverage. Both these issues will likely influence if you can/should deliver in Canada.

Guessing you moved to Ontraio. If she is in her 7th month there is a high probably that you will pay for the delivery. I also wouldn't wait too long to fly back home if this is your plan. Babies are born at any time not just 1 week+ /- . There will be rules about how late she could travel. If your wife is planning on going to India for a long time she no longer qualifies for OHIP. You'll have to alert OHIP of her long absence and she will need another card once she returns to live permanently in Canada.

Who qualifies
To qualify for OHIP, you must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below plus at least one of the additional requirements.

To meet the minimum qualifications you must:

  • be physically in Ontario for 153 days in any 12‑month period
  • be physically in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after you began living in the province
  • make Ontario your primary home
You must also meet at least one of the following additional requirements. You:

  • are a Canadian citizen
  • are an Indigenous person (registered under the federal Indian Act)
  • are a permanent resident (formerly called a “landed immigrant”)
  • have applied for permanent residence, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has confirmed that:
    • you meet the eligibility requirements to apply
    • you have not yet been denied
  • are in Ontario on a valid work permit and are working full-time in Ontario, for an Ontario employer, for at least six months
    • your spouse and any dependents also qualify if you do
  • are in Ontario on a valid work permit under the federal Live-in Caregiver Program
  • are a convention refugee or other protected person (as defined by Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada)
  • have a Temporary Resident Permit (only certain case types, e.g. 86 through 95)
  • are a clergy member who can legally stay in Canada and is ministering full time in Ontario for at least six months
    • your spouse and any dependents also qualify if you d
