Dear All
I have landed here three weeks ago. I wish you all the best but I want to suggest few things.
1. Forget your past work experience as the Canadian market requires the Canadian work experience.
2. Get the license, like the one required in teaching, or look for the thing that facilitates you to get at the right job relevant to your field.
3. The jobs is here is easy to get if you have a local reference. the job is referral based..make contacts and use them as references in your resume.
4. in coming months, the jobs will be open in the spring, so modify your resume to suit to the requirements of retail stores and Tim Hortons.
5. Female or male should prefer to apply at the Tim Hortons as there are many brown skinned people working there. After landing, you will understand the term Brown skin.
6. The best way of job here is to do a security guard course...its easy and job is not that tough if the company is lenient.
7. Donot waste your money in the projects which are long term based. Please find the odd job (to get the Canadian experience) that would bring money for your kitchen (instead of eating up the savings that you would be brining from Pakistan.)
8. For grocery, here is a trend to buy the grocery on every Friday from famous stores as the grocery is on sale. Promotional flyers are a common discussion here and a favourite pastimes of women and men.

Others will share experiences but I stress on the points from 1 to 4. Also, remember to use the immigration centre for taking out the prints of resume and cover letters. To get the Canadian experience, volunter is another way being given by the Immigration centre. This will help alot to adjust quickly in the market. Also, if you want to travel quickly for the job, buy 128 CAD pass valid for a month..its cheaper as compared to 3 CAD token to travel. Two way trip will cost 6 CAD for a single person...and 180 CAD whereas the pass costs 128 CAD. show it to the driver while boarding the bus (TTC bus) and enjoy. Otherwise, keep a wide collections of coins to buy the ticket.
If you buy a three in one printer, also look at the price of the cartridge as the printer is 38 CAD but sometime the cartridge is for 18 CAD. :)
Congratulations for safe landing and thanks for sharing your experience so far. what about proof of funds at POE ?

Anyone who had already landed in Canada and following this thread, can you please comment on the offer mentioned below, based on your local knowledge and experience. Its a limited period offer for a GPS device. Will this do or a Garmin GPS device is a better choice for Canada? Since it is a limited time offer, and if it is really good according to you, I would like buy this online and get it shipped to my friend's place so that it gets handy when I finally reach there ( I still don't have any idea how long this wait is gonna be !?! ). Appreciate your time and quick responses.

I sent my Updated Docs this month and now wait has started for medical request.

Is there a possibility that VO will ask for POF again? I have an urgent need to spare some cash which will come back again after 4-5 months.
u can use funds but again funds be back because they can ask ur funds if medicals delayed due to bgc. this is better just to avaid any questions or problem to bo on safeside.

Tomtom is a reputed GPS navigator. However, I wouldn't spend my money on a GPS navigator whether it be TOMTOM or GARMIN. Most smartphones turn by turn voice navigation. I regularly use my Android's phone's navigation in the Gulf Region and it's perfectly fine with Google Maps. If you are are into Garmin or TOMTOM you can also download their software on most smartphones.
In case you don want to invest into a dedicated GPS device, then such offers on groupon do recur from time to time, so you will get plenty of chances. I would rather you try smartphone navigation when you reach Canada. If that doesn't work for you, then you can buy this stuff.

Thanks for your time and detailed response. Yes, I do currently use maps in my car navigation and sometimes smart phone maps while driving around. I am familiar with my current city. But navigation has often helped me find my way through while in UAE and Bahrain.

Some of my friends who recently moved from here to Canada all purchased one GPS device as soon as they landed there. They all identified the make and model they wanted to purchase through internet and bought it after reaching there, as they said, without a proper navigation device, if you are driving, it is very easy to get lost and end up in wrong places. A GPS device - because right now, I am not sure about the GSM network operators like Rogers, Bell, etc and a good GPS device seems to more reliable at times when you really need them. Secondly, I may wait a bit to invest in a car with built in navigation till I settle down and familiarize in a new place and I believe, it is during this time one needs to find his or her way around the city...

When I first saw this offer a few hours ago, less than 10 people purchased it...now when I look at it, the number had grown so big in such a short time. Looks like a good offer to grab which is why I asked for an expert opinion.

Really appreciate your input. I'll try to use and get more familiar with the phone map.

Using smartphones is a good idea but my experience is that sometimes it lands you in problem especially in rush time and needs navigation when you receive a call on your phone. Call on your phone hides navigation and then you feel to have a device. My experience is of UK especially of more roundabouts here and needs to take right exit.

Birth certificate from Nadra is also a requirement (if in urdu then with english translation). I am not sure on Kids form but that can be submitted, if asked.

Hello experts,
I am silent member of this form. This form is really useful. I appreciate everyone for their contributions...
I passed through medical exam on 7 Jan' 13 at Lahore and still waiting for Passport request 1/2. I contacted with LVO and received a reply that my background checks are still undergoing and have no idea when it would be completed... my e-CAS is still showing 'IN-PROCESS'.
Please reply with your feedback if you are facing or already faced similar situation... What do you think when I would get my Passport request 1/2?
Good Luck to all,
