but it is better to write something....message should be understandable

Well this is not advisable. Ultimately your email will go to him if he/she is dealing with your case.

did u receive hard copy of letter OR email?
If letter then there is no initials,
in both cases please waite till end of JAN-13, then send Case Specific Qurery/Inquiry
