While there might be certain delayed / detailed security checks due to belonging to some specific country, i wouldn't think of this necessarily being caused because of religion. Yes the name Muhammad might take longer, but likely not because of being Muslim, but rather because of being very common and hence a long list of possible name matches that CIC needs to ensure aren't related.

Canada is one of the best (if not the best) countries for immigrants. Unless one actually has something to worry about, things always get sorted out and immigration process isn't any different.

On that note, i am a Muslim with beard, came to Canada on a skilled job and latter got PR. Although my name is not Muhammad, two of my children's names are. We got our PR processed in among the fastest timelines (i believe it was 3.5 months)

We frequently travel to US as well - some times for work, some times for vacation and thankfully never have had any issues. Yes, probably the first few times they asked a bit more extra questions very politely. But that was about it.

And i am not alone. I know tons of people with similar situations. Those who have otherwise (poor) experiences, often have a part of story that they didn't put forward (in which they were guilty of something).

In my personal experience, this is far far better than irrational / double standardized behaviors that some of the most developed or developing Muslim countries show.

In the modern world, people value you by your deeds, quality of your behavior and work, not by the country of your origin or religion. I see that discrimination at its peak in the Middle eastern so called Muslim countries.

If we believe as Muslims that our values are equality, honesty, justice, kindness and others, i am pretty sure much of the west has adopted those, better than us and hence prospered much better as well. I certainly look up to them for those.

May be you are right (and I hope so). But I could not think that way, when every time I have to check in for flight "in person" and they don't allow me to check in online because of my name!

I hold this record. I received my AOR on August 25th, 2015!
I don't have a long travel and stay history, and I didn't work for the military or the government. I am sure the only reason is that my name is Mohammed. They are giving many Muslims a very hard time.
I bet you're a Muslim, or have a Muslim name/background.

You are absolutely right. I am one. I have visited some countries which I now not considered safe. But I have been living in Canada for the last 5 years. Then why should that be a proble,. IT is just pure bad luck I bet.

Dear friends,
My AOR in 2nd May 2016 and my BG status changed in progress after one month. However, I'm still waiting for PR and no hope although I called CIC many times and said that my file completed and waiting for CSIS.

I would like to ask you about the average waiting time to be finalized? I know this is something unpredictable but from previous experience of waiting time. I'm working and living in Canada since 4 years.

I got my AOR in Jan, 2016. More than 1 year has passed without a decision on my application :'(

Stuck in the BG phase since forever!!!

Called Ottawa CPC and they asked me to check back later in Feb.

I would take this with a grain of salt. While the reports might very well be true, this does happen with every big / small political change.

Do you expect this to have any massive impact beyond a few outliers?

For one the news it was indeed classified as hate crime and government machinery sprung to action, an arrest was made. The same as what you expect from a good first world country when any sort of crime occurs.

Thankfully i have zero experience of any such thing. May be because i don't live in Toronto. But i used to live in Montreal, traveled often to Ottawa and now have been living in Vancouver for a while. Things have been great.

Most of us are coming from developing countries where we know people are discriminated based on caste and even from the states people come from. We want to move to Canada to have a better standard of living, equal opportunities and most important safety.

Ofcourse they are going to take more time for some applications over the other like all countries do even for visit or student visa. I don't think this has anything to do with religion but just the complexities of the application.

If we start thinking about Canada like that then the whole purpose of moving to Canada is defeated.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, my forum friends, I literally thought I would never be saying this but it happened: I got my PPR! These were grueling 16 months of waiting, and I am so happy the end is near. Still have some hoops to jump through, with me now being pregnant, but finally there is a ray of sunshine.

Hi,

PPR received just now. Just want to say thank you very much for all of your support and encouraging wording so far. There's time I felt so depressed until I found this forum, especially this thread. I felt that I was not alone.

Wish you all soon receive the golden email PPR. Below is my detail for your reference:

Stream: PNP outland
Visa office: SGVO

1st AOR: April 2015
Refusal letter: July 2015
After a few months, sending more than hundred email to any CIC email address that I can find on google, I finally reached the officer who refused my case. I show him/her that he/she wrongly rejected my application. Thereafter, they accepted my explanation and ok for me to resubmit.

1st December 2015: 2nd AOR
November 2016: got the request for medical recheck, completed and passed within the month.
16th December 2016: I found that BG changed from not needed to in progress (not sure the date is correct given I only found this status change when logged in the account).
12th January 2017: PPR
