Yeah, i gave up on that. I don't think i'm ever getting a reply from them. It's been, well, almost 3 months.

8 months today. Not a freaking beep has been heard from SGVO. Background Check: Not Started (from day 1). Emailed them one month ago: No Reply. It is beyond frustrating.

Is it because the request has to be made by (coming from) the person having a valid Canadian status (a relative, friend and/or a lawyer making the request on your behalf, if you are an outside applicant)?

My work permit expire on July 09, 2016. I have applied for BOWP (same employer) at end May 2016. My file & wife's file is still in process but my son's study permit has been approved.

I think i have crossed the processing time period, is there anyway to check whats happening with my BOWP file ? like calling CIC etc.

I applied thru a consultant, so i dont have login access. Kindly advise.

Yes, the website doesn't say anything about that. I was just concerned, as I have submitted the request the same way (fax, online), and mentioned my Canadian relative's name & address to receive the mail.

Emailed them yesterday and got a response within several hours. It was sadly only that standard reply: we confirm your application is in our office and it's within regulatory processing times. Which made me angry because how is 12 months a regulatory processing time??? I wonder whether engaging a lawyer at this point would do any good!?

Hi Tocanadawego and Que Em,

I also faxed a request to CSIS (by my fd in Canada) and called CSIS a week later to confirm whether they received the fax. Amazingly the lady who picked up the phone said there was no way an individual could ask for the security file directly from them. I led her to their OWN website and she said she needed to check. A few days later she called back and said the information on the website was incorrect (surprise!)!

I double-checked the forum posts of people who previously got their security screening file from CSIS and found that they did request the file this way and got the information from CSIS.

I sent the request to them again by registered mail last week. I know it is frustrating and you are always at the edge of giving up. But no harm keep trying. There are a lot of staff in their system who do not know anything of their own business and give a wrong answer. I think we just keep following their steps according to their website. First request the file, the second step is if you havent heard from them beyond the processing time write to the Director, then next step there is a Committee overseeing CSIS. This is what they list on their website.

Just don't give up trying, even if you no longer have an expectation on those authorities.

I guess involving a lawyer is good for cases exceeding 12 months.

Keep us posted of any update and hope we can help each other (even spiritually) during this painful process.

When I called them yesterday I also got a nagging from the call center agent about requesting GCMS notes too often - he was going on about how MAYBE SOMETIMES things could happen, like they could misplace your file if they kept having to pick it up? I found that rather disturbing, even if he was careful to keep saying that it was my right to request them. In any case for my most recent request it's already been 43 days, so they're hardly meeting their service targets.

Anyway. It just feels really frustrating that it feels like we've been put on hold because of nothing that we could help.

My BG changed to IP on 19 Sep but no updates till now. Everybody else got PPR around my dates.....

Worried... anything to worry about Sad
